How to Transition Summer Floral Tops to Fall

If you are like me, you may have added a few summer tops to your wardrobe this season that haven’t received as many wears as you might like. Living in a city that always has a bit of a warm fall, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks that helps me beat the heat by wearing my summer tops in fall months. I wanted to share a few of my top tips on how to transition summer floral tops to fall, so we can all get a little more use out of these pretty prints.
Summer florals tend to be bright colors, might incorporate a little more white, or summer details like eyelet material. My floral off the shoulder top gives me all the summer feels and looks super cute with white shorts for a hot summer day. Transitioning this floral print to fall can be pretty easy with a few simple swaps and adds.
HOW TO TRANSITION SUMMER FLORAL TOPS TO FALL
1) Add in a dark bottom. I like dark blue or black to easily make a summer white or bright print have a more fall feel. It provides the right amount of contrast to the top and adds in a darker shade more associated with the fall season.
2) Choose a bootcut or flared jean. With closed toe shoes, booties, and heels in season, a flared jean is an easy way to transition any top into fall. These jeans pair well pointy toe shoes and add a dressed up look to a casual outfit.
3) Swap out your sandals for darker closed toe heels and suede boots. In fall, I love to pull out my shoes in darker shades of tan and brown like these heels. A suede material also helps give all the fall vibes to an outfit.
4) Swap out your summer straw purse for a leather tote bag. Straw bags make us think of beach days and vacation, and leather bags always make me think back to school. The handbag swap is another easy way to transition your look to fall. For the fall season, I love picking a bag in a rich brown color to work with summer brights and fall earth and jewel tones.
Just a few simple swaps and those summer floral tops are getting a few extra wears during the fall! If you are looking to add a few fall staples to your closet, don’t forget to check out my post on Fall Must Haves from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

Happy Friday!! I am ready for the weekend!! It is full force allergy season in Houston, the weather girl literally said “If you have allergies, just don’t go outside” in her forecast this week. I only get headaches when the allergy weather is bad, but headaches are still no fun! I did wake up this morning headache free though, so I am ready for some weekend fun! I have plans for family time on Sunday and spring shopping on Saturday! I have a vacation coming up in a few weeks, and I want to buy a few new things for it.
While I am definitely a believer of wear what you love not necessarily what is on trend, I still follow along because what is on trend is what is in store. I am currently in love with many of the current spring trends. Over the next few weeks, I’ll share a few of my favorite spring trends and how I make them work for my style. One trend right now is flared jeans. I am not going to go full big bell bottom flare, because I think they throw off my proportions since I’m a shortie. I do however embrace this trend with my bootcut jeans. I love the slightly flared look of a bootcut jean. I always pair mine with some type of shoe with height whether it be a heel or a wedge. I think the added height really helps with the proportions between my 5’3 height and the flared leg. If you want to go full flare and you are short, I recommend pairing with a shoe with some height.
Flared jeans are fun because you can dress them up or down. I opted to dress this pair down with my mixed media tunic. This top comes in a bunch of different colors, but I really love this dark gray. It is a great basic staple top. I also wear it with pencil skirts for work. I added a punch of color with my bright pink bag which is on sale by the way! This round of silver accessories is my go to for an easy jewelry look. I love the platinum drusy and slate stone from Kendra Scott. I also own the slate gold version of these earrings and the platinum drusy stud earrings. They are great colors that work in so many different ways.
I hope ya’ll have a great weekend and a wonderful Easter! Thank you for swinging by the blog this week!!

When I head to Christmas parties, I sometimes like to plan an outfit with a holiday color theme. I love red, white, and gold together in an outfit. Adding a blazer to an outfit can really help set the tone or overall feel for your look. I have a cute fitted black blazer that I wear sometimes, but on occasion it kind of reminds of work or a suit. I love the trend of white or colored blazers. You can toss this white blazer over a fancy dress to help give it a more casual vibe, or pair it with a jeans look to help dress it up a bit. When I chose this blazer, I liked it for it’s open no button look. I think it lends a trendy laid back feel to it. The lace details at the neckline of this red blouse were a big selling point for me. I tend to pair this top with cardigans or blazers because I like how the lace peeks through from under the blazer. This top is a few years old and I couldn’t find anything identical, but I linked some sort of similar options for you.
My holiday festivities officially kick off tonight! My bestie’s house is part of the Holiday Home Tour in the Heights of Houston. As part of my best friend duties, I volunteered to help out tonight give tours of her house. I have seen a couple pics of some of the holiday decor she has up, but I haven’t seen it all yet. She loves her holiday decor as much as me, so I know the whole house will be fabulous. I will share a few pics over on Snapchat (ladyinviolet) if you want a peek at her decorations! Thanks for swinging by the blog this week and have a great weekend!

A few weeks ago, I was sitting at a local restaurant on my lunch break reading a few of my favorite fashion blogs. I came across one that announced flared jeans were back in style. The funny thing is I was sitting there in these flared jeans that I love and have been wearing for years. I never knew they were not in style. I love wearing these to work for casual Friday because I think the flared look comes off a little more professional than a skinny jean. It kind of got me thinking about trends and what is in or out. Anna Wintour made headlines when she mentioned the decline of trends and the rise of individuality and self-expression. I personally love this idea! I think a person should wear whatever they want whether it is on trend or not. Maybe my flared jeans where not on trend for awhile, but I love them and I kept wearing them. Next year if they are on the out list, I am going to keep wearing them. I think a big part of personal style comes from wearing what you love not necessarily what others love. I have seen people in outfits that I would never wear in a million years, but on them I absolutely love the outfit. Why? Because they love what they are wearing and it comes across in the way they walk, stand and move. I know I would not be comfortable in that, and it would show big time! You should love what you wear everyday! You will be amazed how much your own self-confidence can be improved just by wearing an outfit you love. If you are spring cleaning your closet like me, ask yourself not is this in style or on trend, but do I love it or would I wear this right now and be happy in it. Forget the rules and trends, wear what you love!
