I love shift dresses!! I love the loose fit, the comfort, the ease, and the potential to belt for a whole new look. The right shift dress can be so extremely versatile! The one I am wearing today was a Cyber Monday steal from Piperlime (and unfortunately now sold out), but no worries I linked some similar dresses that I are just as great. The cobalt blue color of the dress only enhances its versatility. It really is the perfect shade of blue. I think this shade of blue is great for so many different events, like weddings, showers, work, happy hour events, theater events, I could go on and on. Not only is this a great shade of blue for an array of events, but the accessory options are just as endless. A shift dress is great for pulling out the super long necklaces, but the crew neck of this dress will also go great with a showstopping statement necklace. You could go with something bright like yellow or coral, or a darker shade like a black or maroon statement necklace, and they would standout perfectly against this color. I have also worn my trio of gold necklaces with this dress for a fashion event. Then there are the shoes, again the color options are endless. I love pairing this shade of blue with a red or dark pink. For all my petite friends out there, a nude shoe is a great way to create an illusion of length for your legs. Nude shoes are my secret weapon when I forget to hem a dress and the length is just a tad longer than it should be for my height. While this shade of blue is bright and bold and can stand alone all by itself, this color also works great as a neutral to allow other pieces to standout as well.
On a different note, I am so excited about my new ABOUT page. When I first started my blog, I wrote one that I liked, but I can’t lie I was not in love with it. BUT over the weekend, I felt super inspired and finally sat down and wrote a new one. I am so in love with it, and feel it truly expresses me, my love for personal style and fashion, and my inspiration behind Lady in Violet. Every so often, you stumble across that perfect how did I survive without you item. This Mango shift dress is one of those items. It is probably the most perfect everyday LBD and one of the most worn dresses in my closet. Mango makes some amazing clothes and they have a pretty good price point too! I usually buy their products from Asos, a favorite online retailer of mine. This dress is perfect for just about every occasion – work, date night, bridal and baby showers, theatre events, happy hour, the list is endless! I have owned this dress for over a year now and it still looks new! Best part – I have never ironed it! That is probably why I wear it so much too! It has a slight seamed detailing at the waist to give you a little more shape than a normal shift dress. The length is absolutely perfect for the office and you still get to show just a little leg. It is also a good length to pair with booties! These Nine West booties are also over a year old, but I scoured the internet and found them still available (and on sale) at Overstock.com!
An all black dress is the perfect time to let your accessories shine! I wore this look to the Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker a few weeks ago and wanted to keep my accessories bright for the matinee show. I love this hot pink clutch! It is no longer available but I linked a gorgeous on sale DVF Clutch that I may be adding to my clutch collection soon! I wear a lot of black so adding a bright clutch is a great way to add some color to my outfit. I am also in love with my new Baublebar jewelry, a Cyber Monday find! I am so excited they carry this necklace in silver. My first color choice for jewelry is silver, and lately most trendy pieces only come in gold. When I saw this in silver, I had to have it! The necklace is a long strand that you can knot to create any length or look you want. It has been fun experimenting with the different ways to wear it. I also picked up this Crystal Mason Ring, which FYI is often sold out! I was on the waitlist for this ring, and it was worth the wait! The dark hematite color is really pretty and goes great with my other silver jewelry! Jewelry is such a fun way to change up your looks and allow you to get multiple uses out of one outfit.

As you have probably figured out from my posts this week, I did a little traveling last week. Typically when I travel, I prefer to fly out immediately after work. It is something about waking up in my destination that I love. So what I wore to work that day must also be comfortable enough for me to fly in. I have previously raved about how this swing dress is incredibly comfortable! It also is a good casual work dress, so it is perfect for my work/airport transition. I love how loose and flowy it is. I can put my knees up and wrap my whole body in it if I am cold on the flight or want to sit in a new postion. Also, it has pockets, SOLD!
My other must have for flying is comfortable shoes that easily slip on and off for the security checkpoint and sometimes while on long flights. I am so in love with these Naughty Monkey booties! As soon as I saw them on Instagram, I knew I had to have them. They are super cute and really comfortable! I do not think I have ever recieved more compliments on a pair of shoes from such a variety of people than these booties. I was stopped by men and women of all ages who just wanted to say they liked my shoes. They have a semi-low chunky heel, so it was easy to walk across the airport lugging my carry-on bag. Bonus, after wearing them from 8am-12am, they were still comfortable. I can’t wait to pair these booties with shorts this spring and skinny jeans this winter!

I have talked before about my love of a great statement piece. A piece so gorgeous it needs nothing else to go with it. This necklace is the epitome of a statement necklace. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it on Baublebar. To add to its beauty, 100% of the net proceeds from this necklace benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. With a necklace this beautiful, I want to be sure it takes center stage so an all-black look was exactly what it needed. The colors of this necklace shine even brighter against the black top and really allow it to stand out. When adding a statement necklace, I try to keep all my other jewelry, especially my earrings, simple. If you have too many beautiful statement pieces on at once, they will all be competing with one another. None of them will have the opportunity to truly shine. As Coco Chanel once said, “Before you leave the house, take a look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Great advice from a fashion icon.
