Casual Winter Basics

Happy Friday!! Anyone else have a 3-day weekend? I have a jam packed weekend, so I’m really excited to have Monday off to re-cooperate and work on blog things. It is suppose to go below freezing this weekend here in Houston for a couple days, so I will be pulling out all my winter things to stay warm!
Since we are right in the middle of the winter season, I wanted to share a few of my casual winter basics. I have always been a proponent of keeping a stock of basics in your closet for each season. Items you can mix and match into other outfits. This year, I plan to share more of my basics for each season with you. Also, keep in mind my winter is typically in the 50s, so my basics may be a little different than yours, especially if snow is a regular thing for you.
Long sleeve tees and thermal henley tops are a go to in my closet. I wear them around my house, toss them on to run errands, layer them under cardigans, jackets, and sweaters. They make the perfect base layer to all your winter outfits. I own several black and white ones all with different fits. I love super fitted thermal henleys for wearing around the house or to layer if I’m going to be outdoors. I have had my eye on this Splendid one for years. It’s a bit of a splurge. I picked mine up on a Black Friday sale. It’s is super soft and comfy!
Dark blue, black and gray skinny jeans are another winter staple for me. Something I can wear with heels or tuck into a tall boot. I love pairing skinny jeans with an oversized sweater and boots. Skinny jeans are a year round staple for me, but the darker colors are my go to for the winter season.
I change purses with seasons, and I love a black purse for winter. I have this same bag in pink for spring and summer. I wear lots of black year round, but in winter even more than normal. I love having a simple black bag to go with all my dark outfits.
Fun fact, I don’t typically wear toe nail polish in January unless I start shooting Spring early for the blog. I read once it’s good to let your nails breath, so every January I go polish free. It’s typically the coldest month here, and the one month out of the year that I will not be wearing open toed shoes. A comfy pair of flats are a must have for me for running errands on days when it’s too warm for boots. I picked up this gray Tory Burch pair last fall. I wear them so much!!! They are a splurge, but worth it! Another Black Friday sale purchase, and one I will probably make again this year for a black or nude pair.
A few other casual winter basics for me include leather jackets to add instant chic to any outfit, a black boot because it works with the colors in my closet, and a black beanie and set of gloves. Many of my basics are black because that works so well with my wardrobe, but you could also do gray or brown if it would fit your closet better.
What are some of you must have winter items?

Blush Pink Cardigan + Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! I’m such a fan of new years, new months, new weeks, even a new day. A chance to make new goals and keep working towards old goals. Every year, I love to take time to look back on my personal highlight reel from the past year. I think about my accomplishments, happy memories, and overcome obstacles.
I start every year creating a list of goals for the year. This year, I decided to actually write down said goals. I’m going to keep them on my fridge for a few weeks, and then put them in a folder to look at throughout the year occasionally when I need a little motivation and then at the end of the year. I also found this cool exercise to write down what you plan to be doing and celebrating next NYE, so I included that at the bottom of my list.
Do you make goals and resolutions at the start of the year? I’d love to hear some of them!
I’m starting off 2019 with the prettiest winter outfit. Umm hello long cardigan. You know I LOVE long cardigans and layering. I could not resist this gorgeous blush pink cardigan. It has a drape waterfall design, so you can wear it open or let it close a little. The inside of the cardigan is white, so it shows a pretty two color effect on the drape portion.
I immediately pictured this outfit with an all white ensemble and rose gold jewelry to play on the pink. My rose gold jewelry obsession is growing thanks to Kendra Scott’s new winter line! I wanted it all. I love how these statement earrings really dress up this basic filled outfit. I added in my heels to keep this look on the more dressy casual side. You could also opt for flats.
I’m headed back to the office today after 4 fabulous days off. I always find that first day back to be the hardest! I’m joining some gal pals for happy hour after work, so I’m working for that glass of wine today!
Also, I started a new giveaway over on Instagram. It’s so easy all you have to do is follow me and like all my January posts, and you can win a makeup bag filled with It Cosmetics products! Be sure to hop on over if you want to enter!

Light Brown Leather Jacket

I can’t believe we are here, but this is my last official post of 2018! I’m finishing out the year re-sharing my light brown leather jacket. I styled this on the blog earlier this year as perfect for Spring. As the year went on, I realized this is kind of the perfect jacket year round. The light brown color adds a chic vibe to my jewel toned and all black ensembles of fall and winter. It also blends well with the pastels of early spring.
I tossed this jacket in my bag for NYC as a last second add because I saw it was going to be cold the last few days I was there. It was perfect because it worked with everything from floral mini dresses to jeans and a tee.
Also, I have to mention the sleeveless turtleneck top. The website calls it a funnel neck which basically is just looser than a turtleneck. This top is perfect for all the layering! You can wear it under a blazer or cardigan and with denim or leather jackets. It pairs perfectly with jeans, but can also be tucked into a skirt for work. It comes in a few colors including black 😉 and is only $29!
Well, I’m officially signing off the blog until next year! Wherever the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 finds you, I hope it finds you filled with joy and gratitude for all that ups and downs we survived of the past year and all the amazing that is coming! Happy New Year!

Corduroy Jumper Dress

Hello Hello! How was your weekend? I had so much fun with friends on Saturday checking out Christmas lights and catching up. It was super rainy Friday night, so I decided to stay in watch tv and have a spa night. It was so relaxing! I have a busy week of holiday parties, so it was just what I needed.
I have been on the market for a corduroy jumper dress for a few months. Originally, I was on the hunt for a brown, orange, or burgundy one. Then, I found this blueish purple one. I couldn’t resist and immediately added to cart. FYI, this brand always runs big. I’m wearing an XS. The color is even more gorgeous in person. This dress is perfect for layering over casual tees and turtlenecks. I loved it with this striped one, but you could also do a solid black or white crew neck tee. For spring, this dress can be paired with a short sleeve tee to get even more use out of it. I found it ON SALE for ya’ll too!
I have one more fun holiday post coming for you this week along with my last gift guide of the holiday shopping season, and of course another fabulous outfit. Stay tuned to the blog for all the fun! I hope you all have a wonderful week!
