And so another work week begins…

I probably wear my most girlboss outfits on Mondays.  Monday sets the tone for how the whole work week will go.  I always feel like if my outfit says “Let’s do this,” then I will feel more ready to tackle the day ahead.  Peplum tops are a favorite of mine for their versatility.  I often pair them with pencil skirts for the office for that conquer the day look.  On weekends, I will toss this top on with skinny jeans, heels and a cute clutch (HOW CUTE IS THIS ONE) for a casual dressy look for dinner or drinks.  I like the high neck of this one because it works really well with bib statement necklaces like this one from Gorjana.  I also pair this top with my Baublebar bib necklace for a more dramatic look when I wear with jeans.  I have had this one for a few years, but I linked some similar tops.  This is definitely a top style to have in multiple colors.  I think I might need a black one soon!!  Happy Monday Ya’ll! May your coffee be strong and your Monday be short!

I had another amazing weekend.  While last weekend was all about relaxing, I felt this one was more about going back to my roots so to speak.  On Saturday, my dad, sister and I headed to the Kolache Festival.  My mom had to unexpectedly go into work, so we turned the day into a daughters/dad day date.  We ate our fair share of kolaches, listened to my dad’s favorite polka music, and even took a few spins on the dance floor.  This was an event we attended when I was a kid, so it was fun to go back and reminisce on the good old days.  Sunday was all about old friends! My college best friends and I gathered for lunch and girl time.  Even though we all live in the Houston area, we don’t see each other as much as we used to, so any day we can all get together is a special one.

I fell in love with the print of this skirt at first sight. I could not place my finger on exactly what it was that drew me to it.  My sister saw it and felt it reminded her of a print our grandmother would wear,  so maybe a bit of nostalgia struck when I saw this skirt.   I love the different colors in the skirt, because it gives you multiple options of what color top you can wear with it.  I decided to stray from my solid color route, and try a printed top.  One of the shapes in the skirt is black and white stripe, so I decided to play off that print with a black and white striped top.  The stripes on this top are super thin, so from a distance it almost looks like a gray top.  I really love how the two prints work together, and play off each other.  Print mixing can be very tricky.   I ‘m still working on my basic skills of this art.  If you are a novice print mixer like me, stripes are a great place to start.  I think they blend more easily with other prints to create a nice cohesive look.  Thanks for stopping by and Happy Monday!

First off, I just have to say this dress is so comfortable! The fabric is lightweight and just perfect for our HOT Texas summers!  If they had this dress in more colors, I would probably buy another one!  In a previous post I professed my mild obsession with clutch purses.  Another love of mine is a colored satchel for more everyday use.  I have this thing about mixing brown and black, so I have a hard time committing to a black or brown everyday purse.   I am actually super picky when it comes to the requirements for my everyday handbag, so when I find one I like I usually feel obligated to buy it.  I have been on the hunt for about a year now for a cute everyday satchel that zips and comes in a pretty color.  This was not easy!  For starters, a bag that zips is not that easy to find, and when I would find one I never liked the color options.  A few weeks ago, I attended the Henri Bendel perfume launch and fell in love with the West 57th Satchel. I loved that it fully zipped, fit comfortable on my arm, came with a strap for crossbody use, had no dividers inside, had a pocket for my phone and came in lots of fun colors to choose from.  Ya’ll that is only like half my requirements list. 🙂

Since 98% of my everyday bags are colorful, I thought I would share a couple of my tips to choose the perfect color for an everyday bag.  First up, check out your closet.  What colors do you see and What colors don’t you see?  I love green and teal colors, but I do not own very many clothes in these colors.  I do not want my bag to match too many of the clothes in my closet, so I try to stick with colors that are not big in my wardrobe.  I do want my bag to compliment the colors of my wardrobe though, so I also look at what colors I have tons of.  I wear lots of blues, purples, and dark pink/magenta colors.  This bag is officially called green, but it does have a hint of teal in it.  This shade mixes perfectly with the colors that make up the majority of my wardrobe.  I also considered what colors I would probably not wear this color with like red, green and certain shades of orange.  Again, I check my closet and decided I did not own too many of these colors.  Another factor in choosing a colored bag for me is for the color to look professional.  I take my satchels to the office, meetings, and networking events, so I want a color that is not too loud.  I do however like to pick an eye-catching color.  It will definitely help you stand out a bit in a crowd, and possibly even be a conversation starter.

Henri Bendel has some great color options in classic styles which I absolutely love!  Plus, they are celebrating their 120th Anniversary right now, and having a big sale on their site!  The color of my bag is sold out in the West 57th Satchel, but I did see it still available on a few other bags.  I hope these tips help if you are looking to breakaway from the same ol’ black and brown satchels into a fun colorful one!  If you are in the market to buy a colored bag and would like some more advice, let me know I would love to share more on my experience in picking the perfect color!

I wore a lot of color on the blog this week, so I figured today I would go back to my old favorite – all black!  I love the lace detailing on this top and how the entire shoulder is exposed under the black lace.  Dark colors like black are not seen too much in spring.  The lace and exposed skin is a great way to wear a dark color in spring without it being too heavy.  This top is from last year, but I linked two similar tops from Ella Moss.  I love pairing gold jewelry with an all-black look.  It has a sophisticated feel to it, and the gold both stands out from and compliments the black.  Because of the lace detailing around the neckline, I chose to wear my Mika necklace.  I did not want a necklace that would lie on top of the lace, because sometimes those can snag the lace.  The Mika necklace was the perfect length to sit just above the neckline of the shirt.  Since I kept my necklace simple, I definitely wanted a slightly bold earring.  I love these Gorjana earrings I received in my latest Rocksbox.  They have kind of a dual use to them. They double as a statement piece as styled here by showcasing them against a dark palate, but they are also delicate enough to allow the top to have a little bit of the statement too.  Happy Friday Ya’ll!!  I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and thanks so much for stopping by my blog this week!
