Chambray for the Win!

I finally took the plunge and purchased my first chambray shirt. I have been looking for just the right one for a couple of months. I really like the dark but not too dark shade of this one from Halogen. The material is more on the lighter side than most of the chambray shirts that I have tried on, but that was exactly what I was looking for!! I want to be able to wear this top year round, including spring and summer. I needed a lighter fabric to work with the Texas heat. This shirt also comes in an assortment of other fun spring colors too, like pink and teal. I am excited to pair this top with some fun, colorful pencil skirts this spring, maybe even a few floral skirts! The jeans I am wearing are sold out, but I linked a similar color in the JBrand 485 line.
Houston hit 80 degrees this week, and I was so ecstatic! I am very much a warm weather girl. Plus, it finally gave me the chance to wear these Kimber wedges from Sole Society. I picked these up on sale in November, and have been dying to wear them ever since! I paired them just this week with a flared skirt for work. They also look great with shorts. My new chambray top, black shorts, and these wedges, I can picture it now! I have a feeling these wedges are going to get some good use this season, and will definitely be making several appearances on the blog this spring and summer!

When I originally ordered this top I envisioned how amazing it would look with my black skinny jeans and wedges for spring. I also had visions of pairing it with black dress shorts for summer and my favorite skinny work pants for the office. The day it arrived I was wearing my black pencil skirt, so I tried them on together. The two went together seamlessly. I love versatile pieces and this top is the epitome of office chic to weekend glam! I was really drawn to the small print down the middle of this top. With versatile pieces, you tend to think solid colors, so to find one with a small print was exciting! I think the straight line will look really cool when mixed with a long black or gray cardigan, so I can keep wearing this top on into fall later this year. Untucked this top is about tunic length, and looks AMAZING with skinny jeans!! Yeah I know, I get ridiculously excited when I find a super versatile piece!!

One of my favorite places to find style inspiration is Pinterest. I have about 8 boards solely dedicated to fabulous outfits and style ideas I find. I pin them from Pinterest, other fashion blogs, and celebrity shots. My look today is inspired by a look from my Celebrity Style board. I loved a similar look Emma Watson wore to a dinner at Windsor Castle hosted by the Duke of Cambridge. Her look featured a crisp white button down blouse with a long gray maxi skirt. I wanted to create a similar look that I could wear to work. I love this black maxi skirt from Target, a staple in my spring wardrobe with tank tops, tshirts and sandals. I never thought about pairing it with a button down work top. When looking for a button down blouse, I immediately gravitated towards my striped top from Zara. The light silk material of the blouse worked really well with the loose jersey knit of the skirt. Since it is still a little cool, I paired with booties, but I think this outfit would look just as perfect paired with a pair of strapped heels. In keeping with my Pinterest inspiration photo, I also kept my jewelry simple. I added my favorite gold studs, a bangle, and just two gold necklaces to complete this look. The best part is all these pieces were already in my closet! One of my favorite ways to use my Pinterest style boards is to help me find new ways wear what I already own. Out of My Comfort Zone

I am a fan of solid colors and the occasional small print, but a bold graphic print that is a little out of my comfort zone. While shopping at H&M over the weekend, I saw this top and thought it was really cool and fun. The design was not something I would normally wear, but I immediately knew this top would go great with my new Paige jeans. So I decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and get it. I’m not going to lie, I am still a little hesitant about this top. It’s not that I don’t like this top because I absolutely adore it! But this top definitely stands out among the other items in my closet. I think it is fun and pretty, but it is definitely different from what I might normally pick up. Every so often, I love buying something that is a little out of my style comfort zone. I have found some great clothes by doing this. It pushes my style to a new and exciting level, and make me a little braver the next time I am out shopping. I also love that I can pick up these pieces for reasonable prices at places like H&M. This top is under $30!
I have to mention my new Paige jeans for a minute. I picked them up this weekend at Nordstrom. I have to brag about the jeans department at Nordstrom. I love how knowledgeable they are about their jeans. I always have a slew of questions when buying a new brand of jeans. Will they stretch? Will they fade? Do these look OK or too tight? They know it all! I love that they wear the jeans and can tell you from their experience how they fit after you wear them for a bit. Plus, they will hem them for you FOR FREE! I am 5’3 so my jeans are almost always too long so I love the free hem! If you ever are in the market for a new pair jeans, try the Nordstrom jeans department out!
