If there is anything you become accustomed to growing up in Texas, it is a road trip! I admit it, I am not a huge road trip person. I hate sitting still, and I do not like being in a confined space for long periods of time. Traveling Texas does make it a little better though. I will never forget driving to my best friend’s wedding in spring a few years ago, looking out at the massive fields of bluebonnets in bloom. Then there was the three hour drive from home to college with the tall pine trees and small towns. Texas road trips definitely have amazing views! I am super pumped for my road trip this weekend with some of my girlfriends. Our sorority is having their annual state convention in Dallas, and we have decided to make a fun girl’s weekend out of it! So I have decided to dedicate my post to a little road trip style.
Sitting in a car for four hours requires comfortable clothes! We will be arriving to Dallas and going straight to the convention, so I also need my outfit to go from car to a mingling event pretty effortlessly. My H&M jersey top fits the bill for travel comfort! It’s lightweight and a little loose so I can adjust comfortably in a car. Plus, jersey is the best travel fabric since it doesn’t wrinkle very easy. Since we are going straight to an event when we get there, I am considering skipping my normal shorts or leggings for jeans. These jeggings may fit the bill though since they are kind of a combo of both. Most important for a road trip is shoes that I can easily slip on and off. Flats and booties are great for an easy wear shoe. Normally I would probably go for a flip flop, but winter is making a guest appearance for one more week so those are out. For my road trip today, I can’t guarantee this will be exactly what I wear. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t change three times before walking out the door. I mean I already have like 3 outfits packed just for the Saturday luncheon. Regardless, my outfit will be very similar and have the same casual, laid back feel to it. My previous post was all about staying warm when going out on the town by adding a leather jacket. Today, a little tip to stay warm at the office – add some winter tights! Okay maybe this is pretty basic winter dressing 101, but when you live in Texas sometimes you forget. A few years back, I traveled to London in February. I put together the most amazing theater ensemble with a skirt and a sweater. I didn’t even think about how cold my legs would be! Luckily, I was able to pop in to a London H&M and pick up these black tights! I love love love the dark black color, plus I have had them for several years and they still look new! I must mention I probably only wear them 4-5 times a year which probably has helped them last longer. I held out for a long time on buying dark black tights, because I hate pantyhose! These are thicker material, so I don’t find them as annoying as normal pantyhose. I am even considering picking up a pair of patterned tights next!

When it comes to a girl’s night out in winter, my top goal is stay warm! One of my winter pet peeves is that I usually end up covering up a really cute outfit with a large wool coat and a scarf. My mission last year was to invest in a good quality leather jacket that I could wear for many years to come. I love how a leather jacket can take an everyday tunic and give it that rocker edge for a night out. It enhances the outfit you are wearing versus hiding it. Most high quality leather jackets will cost you about $200-400, but if you wait for the right sale you can find some really great deals! I picked this one up during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for almost $100 off!! With spring styles about to hit stores, now is a really good time to pick up a leather jacket if you have been thinking about one! The one I am wearing is sold out, but I linked some other awesome leather jackets I found that are also on sale!!

I love how an outfit can transform your mood. Whether it be because you have a job interview, a big work presentation, or just because you are feeling a little down in the dumps, putting on the perfect outfit can change your attitude and say, “Today I am kicking butt and taking names – this girl means business!” That is exactly how I feel in this outfit! While for each person that outfit may be a little different, this combo is it for me. I definitely think black is my power color. I always feel strong and oh so chic in that color. I also always feel more confident in a sleek great fitting pencil skirt. I love a full midi skirt, but I have an obsession with pencil skirts! I am also a huge shoe lover, so the power piece for me is always in the shoes! I could live in these Enzo Angiolini pumps. You have seen them on the blog oh so many times, but it is because they are such an amazing shoe! They go with both pants and skirts, and are pretty comfortable. If you feel strong and confident in what you have on, I think nothing will stand in your way. What is your favorite thing to wear when you need a little confidence boost?
