Blue Floral Maxi Skirt
Hello friends and Happy Monday!! Ok, so I totally wrote this post last week before heading out on my trip. Check back later this week for an update on how my first trip to Colorado went! First fun thing of July is crossed off the list! Now it’s time to start getting ready for the big Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! It starts in the middle of the day this year on Friday which well I’m not sure how I feel about that. I like being able to wake up early and prep a post for you guys that first day of early access. With it now being in the middle of my work day, I unfortunately will not be able to get that to you until the weekend. But don’t worry, I still have a super fun fashion post planned for Friday! Now, let us talk about this gorgeous blue floral maxi skirt! It’s so fun to dress up for date night or dress more boho chic for daytime. I paired this with a black halter bodysuit for a dinner date a few weeks ago. It was the perfect summer Friday night outfit. This skirt moves so beautifully when you walk! For a more daytime brunch look, I pair it with a basic white tank top and layered silver necklaces. I think it will be cute to toss a black sweater over it in the fall and winter too.
For sizing, I ordered an XS mainly for the shorter length. In the waist, I probably would be more comfortable in a small, but the XS still fits just snuggly. The website has exact measurements, so I knew it would be snug when I ordered it, but I really wanted the short length for my height.

When I originally purchased this skirt, I knew I wanted to pair it with a floral top! I also thought this skirt would partner well with a crop top because it sits a little higher on my waist. As soon as I saw this top from ASTR at Nordstrom, my eyes lit up! It was EXACTLY what I had pictured, I mean how often does it work out that way! I ordered it immediately! I was super nervous when it arrived, because I am not quite fully on the crop top bandwagon, but I was sooooo happy with how perfectly this worked with my blue maxi skirt. First off, the floral pattern and the blue of the skirt are so perfect for each other! I love the lighter floral shades paired with the bright blue in the skirt. I also love that the floral print is reminiscent of a watercolor painting. I was nervous about the crop top portion, but the skirt and bottom of the top hit at just the right spot so I don’t have to worry that I have been skipping ab day at the gym! 🙂 My last concern was if the flow in the top would make me look too bulky, but I think the flow in the top verse this slim line of the skirt helps to create a little bit of definition in the waist area. I am soo in love with this outfit that I kind of want to wear it everyday! I have started doing a little outfit planning for the Southern Blog Society conference in Charleston at the end of the month, and this outfit will definitely be packed. OH Hello Color! When I first saw this skirt, I could not get over how beautiful the color and cut of this blue maxi skirt was. I picked it up, admired it, and then put it back on the rack. As beautiful as it was, the bright and bold color was a little scary for me. As I continued my tour of the new Topshop, I kept coming back to this skirt. I had to try it on, I mean I am trying to add more color to my closet and this is colorful! I seriously did not want to take this skirt off! I have been wanting to add more maxi skirts to my wardrobe, because I think they are perfect to wear in spring! I love that this one has two slits on either side, because it makes walking so much easier. Plus, it creates gorgeous movement when you walk. The bright color scared me at first, but as I stood in the dressing room I imagined all the things I could wear with it. I thought about yellow tube tops for summer or black fitted sweaters for fall and winter. I could style this skirt year round, I was sold! I was also sold on this fun white top, also from Topshop. I love that you can put any color tank top underneath it, and you have a new top. I partnered it with a light blue to balance the bright blue of the skirt in today’s look. I think this top would look pretty awesome with a neon color tank underneath to help subdue the color a bit. This top has so many possibilities! I cannot wait to share them in some upcoming posts!

One of my favorite places to find style inspiration is Pinterest. I have about 8 boards solely dedicated to fabulous outfits and style ideas I find. I pin them from Pinterest, other fashion blogs, and celebrity shots. My look today is inspired by a look from my Celebrity Style board. I loved a similar look Emma Watson wore to a dinner at Windsor Castle hosted by the Duke of Cambridge. Her look featured a crisp white button down blouse with a long gray maxi skirt. I wanted to create a similar look that I could wear to work. I love this black maxi skirt from Target, a staple in my spring wardrobe with tank tops, tshirts and sandals. I never thought about pairing it with a button down work top. When looking for a button down blouse, I immediately gravitated towards my striped top from Zara. The light silk material of the blouse worked really well with the loose jersey knit of the skirt. Since it is still a little cool, I paired with booties, but I think this outfit would look just as perfect paired with a pair of strapped heels. In keeping with my Pinterest inspiration photo, I also kept my jewelry simple. I added my favorite gold studs, a bangle, and just two gold necklaces to complete this look. The best part is all these pieces were already in my closet! One of my favorite ways to use my Pinterest style boards is to help me find new ways wear what I already own.
