When the over the knee boots trend first started, my original thought was I’m 5’3 those boots will swallow my legs. This thought however didn’t stop me from pinning all the outfits with them. I decided to buy an affordable pair and give the trend a go. I found this pair on clearance over a year ago, and the brand no longer ships to the US. A similar pair that does ship here is linked, but I couldn’t find one with the under $100 price tag like my pair. Since I purchased mine, I have learned what works and doesn’t work for my petite frame. I wanted to share a little bit about what I learned on how to wear over the knee boots when you’re short.
For starters, aim for the top of the boot to come no more than about 2-3 inches above your knee. Some item descriptions will list shaft height which is the length from bottom of your foot to the top of the boot. Since I do lots of online shopping, I will pull out a measuring tape before purchasing most boots to ensure the shaft will not be too high.
For my outfit, I leave my tunics in the closet and opt for something that falls just below my waist. I want to have a good amount of jean showing to create that illusion that my legs are a little longer. I find fitted tops work best to keep proportions in check. If you do want an oversized top, I would make sure the length is still on the shorter side or even a high/low hemline.
Over the knee boots look adorable with dresses in early Spring. For my petite friends, make sure a little skin shows between the boots and the bottom of the dress. I think 2-3 inches is a good amount, but be sure this doesn’t make the dress too short. You don’t want a light breeze to catch you off guard. Dresses with the high low hemline work perfect for us short girls to make sure we still get enough coverage in the back while still having a little skin show in the front.
I chose a taupe color over black because I thought the neutral color choice would work better for creating an elongated look. Now that I have owned and styled this pair a bit, I feel a darker pair like black would still work with these same tips.
If you have been thinking about giving this trend a go, keep your eyes on the sales. When sandals and wedges hit the stores soon, many OTK boots will start to get marked down. It will be a great time to buy without spending $200+ for a really nice pair of boots. Ya’ll have a good weekend and thanks for stopping by!

I am bracing for rain over the next few days in Houston. I have had a busy few weeks with no sign of slowing down, so it’s kind of like the bad weather is forcing me to take a little break. This past weekend, I headed home to celebrate the 2nd birthday of the cutest little guy/informal housewarming for a close friend. She happened to recently move less than 5 minutes from my parents’ house and now lives in my old stomping ground! I also was able to head to my favorite mexican restaurant, Larry’s, with some friends. I am always bragging on this place, so I loved the opportunity to finally share it with them.
The party happened to be the same weekend as my cousin’s bridal shower, so I decided to have a little slumber party at my parents’ house instead of driving back and forth. My youngest cousin is getting married, and I just can’t believe it. I swear last year we were all just kids running around our grandparents’ backyard trying to avoid washing dishes after a holiday dinner!
I am excited to buy a pretty new dress for her wedding though! I’ll take any excuse to shop! Keep an eye on my current cravings on the shop page, I’m sure some will be finding their way to the list.
Speaking of pretty new dresses, how cute is the little floral number! I love a bright floral print on a dark background. By the way, it also comes in a short-sleeve version that would be perfect to wear in summer or in about another month here in Houston. I love finding cute dresses with long sleeves to wear on weekends this time of year. We are in that hot all day, cool all night season. The short dress is perfect for the heat, and long sleeves keep me warm at night. On weekends, I am sometimes going non-stop and may not have time to head home and change, so a dress that can work in different temps and for different occasions is perfection! This dark floral dress is also going to be perfect to wear in the fall too!
I wanted to let ya’ll know that Henri Bendel is having a sale which makes my cute pink bag 20% off! It’s a buy more, save more so grab a friend who loves pretty purses to get it for even less! And yes this is the same bag I have previously posted as a backpack. You can also wear it as a crossbody. Now that I have been carrying it for awhile, I noticed I primarily wear it this way. It is so easy to switch it back and forth with a couple snaps and hooks.
Happy Wednesday Ya’ll!! I’m going to go swim to work now, just kidding. 🙂

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and long weekend! I had so much fun hanging with family Thursday and Friday, and then being a little bit lazy this past weekend. I updated the In My closet section of my shop page over the weekend to include a few of the new items I received for Christmas. I also picked up these OTK boots yesterday! I’m super excited because they were sold out over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales weekend. I have been checking for them to come back in stock, and they finally did this weekend!! I cannot wait for them to arrive, and of course share some fun styling ideas with you guys. I wanted a pair with a heel because I love wearing the over the knee boots in this post, but they have a more casual vibe to them. One of my favorite ways to style these flat OTK boots is with a cute dress. This Lush swing dress is the perfect length to pair with these boots. I wear this dress all the time, and I’m always looking for a new way to style it. A few weeks ago, we had a nice fall day, and I decided to add on this sweater vest. I added this cozy sweater vest to my closet at the end of summer, and I have been waiting for some cooler weather to wear it. The vest and dress hang at about the same length which gives this look a cozy, but still put together feel to it.
I cannot believe we are in the final week of 2015! This year definitely seemed to fly by! Check back Wednesday because I am sharing some of my top outfit posts of the year!!
