One of my favorite things about visiting my parents’ house is how peaceful and relaxing the trips are. The older I get the more I enjoy just sitting on a patio enjoying my morning coffee or evening wine. Even at my own house, I love sitting on my patio sipping my morning coffee while Harlow sunbathes. March and April are prime time for patios in Houston. Eventually even 6am will be too hot to sit outside, so I am enjoying all my patio time. I do find it funny that when I was a kid we would totally make fun of my dad for wanting to just sit outside and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. We would always be like but there is no TV out there, what do you do, just sit there?!?! Now here I am becoming my father and enjoying my tv free outside patio time.
I always pack a comfy semi-lounge outfit for my parents’ house. I just picked up this floral shirt from Anthro, and I am in love. It is so soft, and I’m kinda obsessed with the purple floral print. I don’t usually like gray tees for summer because the 100 degree sweat marks aren’t cute, but I made an exception for my pure love of the floral print. It also comes in 6 solid colors too! I’m thinking about buying the white one, because you can never have too many great plain white tees.
A note on the earrings I’m wearing, I made them at the color bar. They are silver with the purple jade stone. If you have never played at the Kendra Scott color bar, I highly recommend it! You kind of get to feel like a jewelry designer for a hot minute. It’s really fun!
I am finally making a trip to the Houston Rodeo tonight to see Darius Rucker or as I keep calling him Hootie and the Blowfish. 🙂 I really like both his music styles, so I’m super pumped to see him and eat some fried rodeo food! If you want a little sneak peek of this rodeo you have been hearing so much about, follow along on Snapchat (username: ladyinviolet) to see what it is all about!
Thanks for stopping by this week and have a fabulous weekend!!

I am bracing for rain over the next few days in Houston. I have had a busy few weeks with no sign of slowing down, so it’s kind of like the bad weather is forcing me to take a little break. This past weekend, I headed home to celebrate the 2nd birthday of the cutest little guy/informal housewarming for a close friend. She happened to recently move less than 5 minutes from my parents’ house and now lives in my old stomping ground! I also was able to head to my favorite mexican restaurant, Larry’s, with some friends. I am always bragging on this place, so I loved the opportunity to finally share it with them.
The party happened to be the same weekend as my cousin’s bridal shower, so I decided to have a little slumber party at my parents’ house instead of driving back and forth. My youngest cousin is getting married, and I just can’t believe it. I swear last year we were all just kids running around our grandparents’ backyard trying to avoid washing dishes after a holiday dinner!
I am excited to buy a pretty new dress for her wedding though! I’ll take any excuse to shop! Keep an eye on my current cravings on the shop page, I’m sure some will be finding their way to the list.
Speaking of pretty new dresses, how cute is the little floral number! I love a bright floral print on a dark background. By the way, it also comes in a short-sleeve version that would be perfect to wear in summer or in about another month here in Houston. I love finding cute dresses with long sleeves to wear on weekends this time of year. We are in that hot all day, cool all night season. The short dress is perfect for the heat, and long sleeves keep me warm at night. On weekends, I am sometimes going non-stop and may not have time to head home and change, so a dress that can work in different temps and for different occasions is perfection! This dark floral dress is also going to be perfect to wear in the fall too!
I wanted to let ya’ll know that Henri Bendel is having a sale which makes my cute pink bag 20% off! It’s a buy more, save more so grab a friend who loves pretty purses to get it for even less! And yes this is the same bag I have previously posted as a backpack. You can also wear it as a crossbody. Now that I have been carrying it for awhile, I noticed I primarily wear it this way. It is so easy to switch it back and forth with a couple snaps and hooks.
Happy Wednesday Ya’ll!! I’m going to go swim to work now, just kidding. 🙂

What to Wear to a Blog Conference

| DETAILS |

We made it to Friday and to my final post about the Thrive Blog Conference. My blog is primarily fashion and style, so I feel like I need to put a bit of thought into what I am wearing to a blog conference. I want to be sure my outfit reflects my personal style and blog accurately. This is actually pretty easy as most of the clothes in my closet have been worn on the blog or on my Instagram at some point. I do still have a few outfits you haven’t seen like this Lilly Pulitzer dress. It’s several years old, so I linked some of Lilly’s current dresses that I love and that would work with this look in the details above.
I thought I would share a few style tips for what to wear to a blog conference for any of you who may have one coming up. First, wear something you feel comfortable in. If I am not 100% feeling my outfit, I think it shows in my attitude. I want to love my outfit, and I want it to fit perfect so that I can easily move around and sit comfortably. Two, check out past conference pictures for inspiration. Every conference is different and has a different attire level. Thrive is a bit more casual, so jeans and a cute top would totally work. When I attended The Blog Societies conference, all the attendees were dressed up a little bit more in nice day dresses. Check out the conference’s website or get on Instagram and search the conference hashtag to see what people wore the previous year. Third, bring a jacket or sweater. Conferences can be cold, so make sure to bring a jacket that works with your outfit. And last, wear something memorable. It doesn’t have to be the whole outfit, maybe a cute pair of shoes, a bright color, or statement jewelry. You meet tons of people at conferences, and sometimes I may not remember someone’s name, but I will remember the outfit. When people scroll back through the Instagram tagged photos, they may see your cute shoes or that bright color and reconnect with you after the conference.
I think the most important is to be you and be comfy in your outfit. Remember, you will be sitting for large portions of time too. By the way, these pictures were taken by the gorgeous pool at the conference hotel. The pool area was gorgeous, and I was a little bummed it was cold that weekend. I would have loved to get in some sun and a cocktail by the pool!

MORE FAVES FROM THE SHOPBOP SALE
Saturday is the last day to shop the Shopbop Spring Sale! If you have never shopped this site, it houses many designer brands like Tory Burch, Rebecca Minkoff, and Stuart Weitzman. I love using this sale to buy wardrobe staple like jeans from Paige and AG. You have to spend at least $250 to get a discount. I’m going to let you in on my secret for scoring a bigger discount in these buy more, save more sales. PHONE A FRIEND! My best friend and I put our orders together, so we could get a bigger discount. So if you don’t think you can meet the minimum or you are oh so close to the next discount range, text that friend who loves designer brands as much as you. After you place the order, you can head back into your order to see the price of each item which will include the individual tax for each item. This makes it super easy to see exactly how much each person owes.
I can’t wait for my purchases to arrive! I purchased these jeans and this top. I really wanted these shoes, but they were out of my size. My bestie purchased all shoes, now you see why we are such good friends. 🙂 She scored some great shoes for spring and summer. I’m a little jealous of these and these are perfect for chasing her almost 2 year old around the park. Now that you know my little sale shopping secret, call that friend and get shopping before this sale ends and check out more of my fave sale items below.

I’m so excited for this weekend!! I am heading to the Thrive Blog Conference later this afternoon! The conference is just north of Houston, but I took the whole day off because Houston traffic can be brutal on Friday afternoons! I also kind of really wanted to have a little me morning. You know sleep in, enjoy a cup of coffee or two along with some dog cuddles before heading out to the conference. I do still have to finish packing and running a few errands, so I can’t relax for too long! The hotel is brand new and gave us a great conference rate for 2 bedroom suites. My two roomies and I will each have our own bed thanks to a pull out couch. I’m going to be sharing more about how the conference went and what I wore on the blog next week, but if you can’t wait you can follow along on snapchat (ladyinviolet) or Instagram! I promise to post a tour of my two bedroom suite and let you in on who my fabulous blogger roomies are over on snapchat!
Now on to the outfit! Colorful cardigans are high on the list of my favorite items for spring! I love tossing them on with sundresses or sleeveless tops. I own them in a few different colors, but this coral one is a spring and summer fave of mine. I love wearing it over some of my black dresses for work to add a fun pop of color. On a little more casual days, it is that perfect addition to a more neutral color palette. This one in particular is a few years old, but I linked a similar color from H&M. I love buying basics like tees and cardigans from them, because I find them to be good quality and a great price! Plus, their basics come in so many color options!!
Alright, I should probably start packing soon or at least making my packing list. If there is anything you would like me to share on snapchat or a future blog post about the conference, feel free to shoot me an email or leave me a comment! Thanks for stopping by the blog this week!
