Belting a Maxi Dress

Happy Friday!! Ya’ll it has been so rainy here in Houston this past month. It’s really been getting in the away of my outfit shoots. I like to shoot in the evenings or on weekends. I feel like everyday at 5 the skies turn dark gray and the rain starts. We’ve also had lots of rainy weekends, I have been trying to sneak in an outfit or two when I can. I’m hoping this weekend for some clear skies because I have so much cute stuff for summer to share with ya’ll!
Anyways, on to this blue maxi dress. This dress is a great example of how a belt can totally transform a look. Without the belt this blue dress has zero shape and all the boho vibes. I wore it without the belt to a slumber party my friends and I had last month. The shapeless look made it so comfy and perfect for lounging with friends. Adding a belt not only creates shape and definition to this dress, but takes it from casual boho lounging to office ready. Since it is a loose fit, I recommend sizing down. Also for my petite gals, belting it makes it a tad shorter which is great because this dress is a little long on my height. I have to wear some kind of heel to keep it from dragging the floor in the back.

How to Style a Pleated Mini Skirt

I’ve shared previously my love for these fun and flirty mini skirts especially during the spring and summer season. My typical go to outfit pairing for this skirt style is a super casual look with tank tops and tees. I wanted to show off a different way to wear these flared skirts for the spring and summer season that slightly dresses them up and may even be a way to transition them into fall.
Since a denim jacket over a tank top works well with these skirts, I decided to try out this bright yellow skirt with my darker chambray skirt. The long sleeve button down blouse dresses up these summer mini skirts a bit making them great for work or date night. It still needed something, so I added in a brown belt placing it about an inch below the top of the skirt. I love how the look turned out letting the skirt peek out on both sides and helping this belted look work without worrying about exact belt placement or needing belt loops. You could also opt for a lighter chambray for a brighter and lighter look.

Summer Boho Vibes: Floral Print Kimono

When I tried on this floral print kimono, I knew two things – 1) this would be a great swim coverup and 2) with my new flared jeans this would be the perfect boho chic outfit for summer. This kimono is a semi-thick cotton, and the slide slits really help it move when you walk. The slits on the sides also help the duster from being too overwhelming on my frame. You could also wear this over a fitted black dress or with shorts for a few different outfit options.
Let’s talk about these jeans because I’m in love. For all my petite gals out there dying to try the cute frayed hem look, search out all the cropped jeans. Cropped jeans tend to hit right around ankle length on my 5’3 height. This means I can keep that cute frayed hem and don’t need to do any alterations. After a couple years of feeling like I was missing out on this trend, I’m happy to find this little petite friendly tip so I can join the frayed hem club. These jeans are high waisted and look so cute with a body suit or tucked in tank for date night. The looser fit really works well with a more fitted top.

Strong Shoulder Denim Jumpsuit

A few weeks ago, I attended a farewell dinner for a friend. This strong shoulder denim jumpsuit was perfect for girls’ night out and turned into a crowd favorite at dinner. I personally love the comfiness of a denim jumpsuit. The loose fit coveralls design of this one only added to the comfy and the chic factor. Then there is the strong shoulder detail. You are either going to love this or hate it. I think it really amps up the outfit and makes it a statement maker.
Since this jumpsuit is a looser fit, I opted for a simple sandal to help balance proportions versus pairing this with a chunkier wedge sandal. Jewelry is where you can really add in some personality with this look. You can go super sleek with all gold and silver chunky pieces or add in pops of color. Butterflies are taking over the jewelry section this season, and I love it. This white earrings are perfect for summer! White pairs so well with bold colors and also has a simple and sophisticated look. I also added in all of my chunky stone bangles to add in color and pair with the whimsical butterfly of my earrings.
