Black is definitely the new pink.  I always find myself leaning towards darker colors when I am out shopping, and I think you can never go wrong with a black on black look.  I love how simple yet strong an all black ensemble can be, and the slimming effect of black doesn’t hurt.   Sometimes I will add a pop of color with shoes or jewelry to break up the dark color.   It’s a great way to show off an amazing statement necklace, or sport a fun shoe color.  I love wearing my red pumps with all black!  The color really shines against the all black background.  Happy Friday!

My first two nights of Fashion Houston have been amazing!  The runway shows have been beautiful and inspiring for some new outfit ideas.   I had to give you a little sneak peek of what I am wearing tonight because I am so in love with this skirt!  As soon as I saw this skirt, I knew I would be wearing it to Fashion Houston.  I love how you see the flashes of gold in between the pleats as you walk and move.  Tonight is Girl’s Night Out for my friends and me with a visit to the VIP Lounge and possibly a stop by the Fashion Houston after party.  This skirt was definitely made to move and dance the night away.  I love the longer length of this skirt because you can easily wear this to an office Christmas party too.  The best part of the skirt is the price tag, it is under $80!!  The lower price helped me feel better about the fact that I probably will only wear this skirt a few times a year. Since the skirt is such a statement piece, I wanted to keep everything else I wore subtle.  I paired with a black top and my only jewelry is a pair of gold earrings and a couple bracelets.   This look is definitely red carpet ready!  Tonight’s show features Rebecca Minkoff, Bibhu Mohapatra, and my local favorite and Project Runway winner Chloe Dao.  If you are interested in purchasing tickets or learning more about Fashion Houston, visit Fashionhouston.net

Thanksgiving is always the kick off to holiday parties, and you do not want to forget the amazing people behind all of these fabulous parties.  Part 2 of my holiday gift guide is all about the hostess.  When deciding on the perfect gift, I like to think about not only the hostess but the type of party.  If I am heading to a family event, I may grab a beautiful vase or a cool candle.  For an all girl party like a Christmas Cookie Exchange, I may pick up something more feminine like a great smelling lotion or jewelry holder.  For most parties, I love to bring one of my favorite bottles of wine and drink accessory like coasters, a fun decanter or wine accessories.  I love keeping reusable wine gift bags on hand during the holidays too.  Sometimes the holiday parties can stack up and being able to grab a cute bag and a bottle of wine is a quick and easy hostess gift solution.

Tonight kicks off one of my favorite Houston events, FASHION HOUSTON.  Four nights enjoying amazing runway shows featuring designers big and small while sipping champagne and having the perfect excuse to get all dressed up!  I love seeing what everyone is wearing to this event.  It is a chance to pull out your favorite dresses and sequin pieces, and create a show stopping look.  For tonight, one of the runway shows is Little Black Dress Designer, so I decided to pull out one of my favorite LBDs.  I purchased this dress a couple years ago from Express. I loved how even though it is a tight dress, it still has a loose and comfortable feel when I wear it.  The statement piece of this outfit is definitely the sequin jacket.  I purchased this jacket for a steal a few years ago at an end of year sale.  I was drawn to the idea of a sparkly embellished jacket that  I can pair with different colored dresses or jeans and increase the wears of it.  With statement clothing pieces, it is often hard to be able to wear them more than once.  They are usually very memorable!  I have a few amazing and beautiful sequin dresses hanging in my closet only worn once.   With this jacket, I felt it was still that beautiful statement piece I love, but has the ability to be worn different ways to change up the look.  A few years ago, I paired it with skinny jeans, heels and a black tank top for New Year’s.  I also wore it to a bachelorette party paired with a white top.  Since it is black and silver, I plan on getting even more use out of it wearing it over colorful dresses.  But for tonight, my beautiful embellished jacket and I will head to night one of Fashion Houston to walk the red carpet into the Wortham Theater to check out Tibi, Grungy Gentleman and more.  If you are interested in purchasing tickets or learning more about Fashion Houston, visit Fashionhouston.net
