Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017: Dressing Room Diaries

Happy Friday!! Alright ya’ll, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017 is officially open to the public! I hit up my local store a couple times this week, and I thought it would be fun to take you guys shopping with me. Even though I purchase most online, I still love to go in store and see things up close and personal. I always find items that I totally skimmed over online and end up loving!
My store was already slim pickings on sizes for some things. My plan for this is to grab the next size to see if I like the overall look and fit and then order online. I’m sharing the sizes I am wearing in the photos, and how I felt about the fit of each for you. For a few pieces, I’m also sharing a few thoughts and opinions.
I hope ya’ll enjoy my dressing room diaries and Happy Nordstrom Sale Shopping!

Off the Shoulder Plaid Top (Size M / Fit I’d prefer a Small) | Dark High Waist Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
IN LOVE with this top! It’s so soft and very easy to move in for an off the shoulder style. The fit was a little big, but it still held up on my shoulders.
I was considering a black pair from this jean brand, so I tried these on just for fit and fell in love! They are comfy but still super skinny.

Burgundy Cold Shoulder Tunic Sweater (Size S / Fit Runs Big) |Dark High Waist Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
This sweater is so cute and cozy, but definitely runs really big!! It also comes in black.

Black Ruffle Cold Shoulder Sweater (Size S / Fit TTS)
A lightweight sweater perfect for early winter/late fall. Also comes in a light purple.

** Top Seller of the Sale** Long Maroon Cardigan (Size XS / Fit I went down a size to XS)
I had to stop myself from buying all the colors, love this cardigan! It’s been a popular and quick seller.

Gray Ruffle Sleeveless Blouse (Size S / Fit TTS)

Black Cold Shoulder Blouse (Size M / Fit A little bulky in the middle might order a S) | Suede Mini Skirt (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
This skirt is the most fabulous thing I tried on. It fit like a glove.

Plaid Tunic (Size S / Fit TTS but VERY long) | Dark High Waist Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
This plaid has a super cute floral print mixed in on the sleeves and back, but it was just WAY too long for me.

Striped Off the Shoulder Button Down Top (Size M / Fit No give in the off the shoulder portion, and M was a little tight and L too big)
This top will either fit or it won’t. I found the medium to be a bit too snug, and the L was too big on my arms.
White Lace Dress ( Size S / Fit TTS, but not meant for a petite 5’3 gal – too long)

Purple Off the Shoulder Top (Size S / Fit TTS)
Ok, I think this top is so much prettier in person. It’s a gorgeous satin material with a great loose fit.

Long Beige Duster Cardigan (Size XS / Fit I sized down to XS) | Dark High Waist Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
Soft, Warm and Cozy, all the things a cardigan should be.

Plaid Fit and Flare Dress (Size 4 / Fit TTS)
I liked the overall fit and look of this dress, but it had some odd darting on the drop waist portion that just was off on me.

Black Cold Shoulder Blouse (Size M / Fit a little bulky in the middle might order a S) | Maroon Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
This jean brand can do no wrong, and these jeans are a testament to that. Perfect fit and gorgeous color.

Cardigan (Size S / Fit TTS) | Dark High Waist Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
I grabbed this cardigan without looking at the price tag…. It’s really cute, high quality, and comfy, but not worth the $100 tag in my opinion.
Floral Work Dress (Size XS / Fit I sized down to XS)

Yellow Striped Tee (Size S / Fit TTS) | Dark High Waist Skinny Jeans (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
I want all the colors of this tee!! Love the fit of it. I was worried it would be see through, but I didn’t notice my bra in this lighter shade. You can see the darker jean color peeking through though. I might also buy the scoopneck version.

Black Turtleneck Blouse (Size M / Fit Runs Big – I think I need an XS) | Suede Skirt (Size 27 / Fit TTS)
Oh did I mention the skirt has pockets!!!!
There you go, a tiny peek into my shopping trip at Nordstrom. I had a few misses including this jacket which was WAY too big. I tried on the XS and it swallowed me. Also, these jeans were cute but the fit was just a tad unflattering on me and too long maybe if I went down one size. This sweater was a huge NO! The extra long sleeves were just too much for me.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed this post. As I mentioned yesterday, it’s way different than my normal posts, but I thought it would be really fun to share the shopping side and not just the end result of pretty outfit idea pictures. You can see more of my favorite pics over on my Nordstrom Sale page.
Chic in Black + My Comfortable Black Heels & Link Up

Black Blouse (Color sold out, so here is a super similar one!)| c/o Black Skinny Jeans | Black D’Orsay Heels (40% off!)| c/o Vivienne Pendant Necklace | Black Clutch | Silver Tima Studs | Cuff Bracelet | Silver Bangle | Pave Bangle | Silver Mirror Aviators | Nails: Essie Master Plan
Hello Ladies! I’m sharing a look today that you can probably recreate from items already found in your closet. I feel like you can never go wrong with a chic all black outfit. I have mentioned it before, it’s one of my go to ensembles when I’m not sure what to wear.
You can go two ways with this one and either add in small pops of color or add some striking metal statement jewelry. This necklace is the same chain material and color as my statement fave bib (previously seen here), but this one is lighter and a little less intense. The large pendant at the bottom is some fun added sparkle to the necklace. It really gives it that gorgeous chic look. This is a great statement necklace to pair with a plain solid color tee and jeans or a crew neck dress too.
Also, I have to talk about these shoes. They are crazy comfortable!! I bought them because I needed a new black work pump. I love the chic sophistication of a pointy toe d’orsay heel, and this pair was on major sale. You can’t see it in the photos, but they have a really cool laser cut detailing to them. I think this detail is also what makes them so comfy. It allows the material to stretch a bit for comfort without being to loose. If you need a new black pump, I highly recommend these comfortable black heels. The fit for me was true to size, and they also come in pink.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend ringing in 2017. I started the year off on the right foot with a morning trip to the gym and a day filled with healthy meals and a little leftover champagne. I mean I couldn’t let the bubbles go to waste. 🙂
January and February are typically our coldest months, but I’m starting to wonder if our winter will continue to have these warmer days. I have been leaning towards lots of layered looks lately. I wanted to share a few of my personal tips to creating the perfect warm winter outfit. While it is all about the layering, what makes up those layers is really important. This weather is not super abnormal for Texas, probably why I love long cardigans so much. They are great layering piece right now. You can toss them over a dress or pencil skirt and blouse for work or pair them with jeans for a casual weekend look. I typically go for neutral colors so they can work with anything, but I couldn’t resist this gorgeous burgundy one!
The biggest layer to pay attention to is the top you wear under the cardigan. I go with something lightweight like this tunic that can work as an outfit without the cardigan if the weather warms up too much. This is the same top that I own in olive and wear all the time. I decided to add the white version mainly for the purpose of layering it with sweaters and cardigans. You can also pull out some of your lightweight summer tops for this layer too. The right floral print would look perfect with this look.
I typically save my riding boots for colder days, but occasionally I just can’t resist them when the calendar says winter. To make sure I don’t overheat my feet, I stick to a thinner pair of socks. If you want to dress up this casual look, add some heels or a sparkly statement maker like this necklace.
I’m excited for one more relaxing day off before heading back to work, even if it does rain all day. I have a few gift cards and some amazing sales to keep me busy. A new year means new amazing sales and markdowns. I listed a few of my faves below for you. Ya’ll have a great first week of 2017, and thanks for stopping by!

I can’t believe Christmas is this weekend, and soon we will be celebrating a brand new year! December always seems to go by the fastest. Probably because it’s filled with so many things to do and places to go. I spent the weekend at holiday parties with friends and family. It was so much fun. I can’t wait for even more fun this coming weekend.
I have been eyeing bomber jackets for a few months. Since our warm weather seemed to be sticking around forever, I decided to buy so I would have a pretty lightweight jacket to wear to holiday parties. Of course then a cold front came, and we have freezing temps this week. I noticed this floral bomber jacket is currently sold out, but I linked some more gorgeous ones at the bottom of this post. When looking for a bomber jacket, I kept ending up on the floral ones. I love the gorgeous embroidered detailing. I mean is anyone shocked that I picked a burgundy one. Ha! It’s my color of the year for sure. This jacket is super lightweight, so it can be fully integrated into your outfit and left on while indoors where it may not be as chilly.
I finally bought a pair of gray skinny jeans and love them! Several pairs have been on my current cravings list for awhile now. I went with this pair because I really loved the shade of gray, and they were only $41. I didn’t know how often I would wear them, so I wasn’t ready to splurge yet. Well I can now say that gray jeans can work in so many outfits! It’s a nice change from black and dark blue, and the neutrality of the gray makes it work with a good variety of colors. Stay tuned because I have more outfit coming with these jeans! I would definitely snatch them up while they are on sale.
Thanks for taking some time to stop by today! Check back Wednesday because I have a fun winter office outfit featuring bell sleeves and boots! Also, don’t forget today is the last day to enter the $500 Nordstrom Giveaway from last week’s post.
