I definitely had an interesting day back to work yesterday.  During the work week, I watch news all the time at work and at the gym, but on weekends I watch zero news.  I had seen friends and family posting about the Brazos River flooding on Facebook, but I didn’t think much about it.  Yesterday, I watched the news and learned my hometown is slowly flooding!  The Brazos runs pretty much right through the middle of my hometown.   It’s sadly become a little normal for homes on the riverbanks to flood, but whole neighborhoods miles from the river are flooded.  It’s just mind-blowing because my family has lived in this community for decades and have never seen it this bad.  So far, my parents’ neighborhood is water-free, and I am hoping it stays that way!

But enough talk about that, let’s talk jewelry and even more fun, mixing jewelry metals. A couple weeks ago I talked about my true love, silver jewelry.  I am really enjoying mixing my metals together right now too.  It’s like a whole new realm of possibilities for my jewelry box.   I have played a little here and there, but have really tried embracing the idea more lately.

It all started with these earrings which are made of both silver and gold.  A few of my tips for anyone wanting to try this out – 1) stick to jewelry with the same shine.  Some of my jewelry is super polished, shiny and bright while other pieces have a more brushed or dark look.  I try to pair them together based on their shine factor.  All of these bracelets are super bright and shiny, so they compliment each other well.  2) Play with textures and shapes.  I think making each bracelet a different texture and design or necklace a different shape helps them look more cohesive. Kind of an opposites attract thing. 3) Make your own design.  For bracelets, alternate colors or group them together to create a cool color design.   4) Just go for it.  I stared small with this, by adding a bracelet here and there and slowly built up to just going all out.  I know I’m not the first person to do this, but I like that it is different.

Now go play dress up and try this out, it’s really fun and will make you feel like you have a whole new jewelry box!  Thanks for stopping by and hometown friends, stay safe and dry!

As promised last week, another look at these beautiful burgundy shoes with jeans.  These are definitely a statement pair of shoes, so I kept the rest of my look black and white to let the shoes shine!  So a little tip on skinny jeans, I cuff mine on the inside to create the always perfect length hem.  I do have them altered so they are a good length with most heels, but since the strap on these is higher on the ankle I wanted them a little bit shorter.  When I wear these shoes with a more casual look, I might roll the cuff to the outside.  My favorite kind of look is dressed up casual.  These shoes help me hit that style so easily.  They are the perfect dressy heel that works perfect with skirts and dresses, but the color and suede material as well as the strap lines are perfect for fancying up a jeans and tee look.  I went with my Foxcroft top because I love how it also has a dressy casual feel to it.  I love using my jewelry to play off the geometric shapes on the shirt.  I paired my Aldridge earrings and Mika necklace with this look because they had the same triangle shapes as my shirt design.

I don’t know what I love more about this look, the skirt or the shoes! I picked this skirt up from the Dao Chloe Dao boutique in Houston a few weeks ago.  I liked this skirt when I first saw it, but I honestly have not had much luck with leather or faux leather skirts.  I really didn’t think I was going to like it once I put it on, but I couldn’t just walk by it.   I immediately fell even more in love as soon as I put it on!!  Standing in the fitting room, I imagined this skirt with tight turtlenecks and booties or heels and sweaters with tall black boots.  Leather is one of those materials where either it fits or it doesn’t.  It doesn’t really have any stretch.  This is the first leather skirt I have tried on that fit me perfect.  We really were meant for each other!  Since it is from a boutique, I don’t have a link to it unless you want to call the boutique and see if they have anymore left.  I did however find a similar one and linked above as well as a cute suede version.

My other favorite item of this look is these shoes!!  I bought these with a birthday gift card.  I kept going back and forth on if I should buy them, and I am so happy I decided too!  I bought them from Nordstrom, and they have the most amazing no guilt return system.  It made me more confident in at least ordering these shoes.  As soon as I opened the box, I knew I made the right choice.  First off, they are the pantone color of the year, marsala, wine, maroon, burgundy, whatever you want to call this color.  I love it and how perfectly it works with the camel color of my skirt.  I also love the strap details on these shoes.  One of my concerns was how these shoes would look on my petite frame.  Occasionally when  a shoe has a straight strap across the ankle it can make me look shorter.  I think the slim version of the rest of the shoe helps to alleviate that short look from the top strap.  From the front these shoes remind me of ballet shoes with the strap placement.   I’m just so in love with these shoes, I could probably plan an outfit around them everyday.  This also means they will be repeat offenders on the blog all fall and winter!!  I have tried these on with my skinny jeans and they look equally amazing as they do with this skirt! I will have to share a look next week! Stay tuned!!

Also, I have to wish a HUGE Happy Birthday today to my first ever blog subscriber, my Aunt Jen!!!  Now I will see if she really reads my new post emails 😉  Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

I just don’t think you can have too many little black dresses. Depending on the style, they are perfect for date night, girl’s night out, weddings, work, happy hour, a trip to the theater, I could go on for a while.  For a fun office look, I love my little black shift dress.  I purchased this one a few years ago from Asos, but I linked a couple similar items above.  I could probably wear this style of dress to work every day and be happy.  Since the dress is sleeveless, it transitions seasons easily.  I would wear this outfit in spring, summer, and early fall.  When the weather cools off, this dress pairs perfectly with a cardigan and boots.  I love this dress paired with a long cardigan that reaches almost the same length of the dress.  I love that the dress has no real shape, but the material is thick so it still holds a structure.  Shift dresses are some of the most comfortable wear to work dresses, but the structure really helps this one keep that professional feel.  When you have a black dress, your accessory options are endless!  It is no lie that I love carrying colorful purses, and they all mix perfectly with a black dress.  The jewelry options are also pretty endless too depending on your neckline.  This one has a slight turtleneck collar and works perfect with long pendant necklaces and wide bib necklaces.  If there was one dress you must have in your closet, a little black shift dress should definitely be up for consideration!!

PS – Two of my favorite gold jewelry items are currently on sale!!  I marked them above as on sale!!  Happy Shopping and Happy Wednesday!  We are halfway to the weekend!
