Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend ringing in 2017. I started the year off on the right foot with a morning trip to the gym and a day filled with healthy meals and a little leftover champagne. I mean I couldn’t let the bubbles go to waste. 🙂
January and February are typically our coldest months, but I’m starting to wonder if our winter will continue to have these warmer days. I have been leaning towards lots of layered looks lately. I wanted to share a few of my personal tips to creating the perfect warm winter outfit. While it is all about the layering, what makes up those layers is really important. This weather is not super abnormal for Texas, probably why I love long cardigans so much. They are great layering piece right now. You can toss them over a dress or pencil skirt and blouse for work or pair them with jeans for a casual weekend look. I typically go for neutral colors so they can work with anything, but I couldn’t resist this gorgeous burgundy one!
The biggest layer to pay attention to is the top you wear under the cardigan. I go with something lightweight like this tunic that can work as an outfit without the cardigan if the weather warms up too much. This is the same top that I own in olive and wear all the time. I decided to add the white version mainly for the purpose of layering it with sweaters and cardigans. You can also pull out some of your lightweight summer tops for this layer too. The right floral print would look perfect with this look.
I typically save my riding boots for colder days, but occasionally I just can’t resist them when the calendar says winter. To make sure I don’t overheat my feet, I stick to a thinner pair of socks. If you want to dress up this casual look, add some heels or a sparkly statement maker like this necklace.
I’m excited for one more relaxing day off before heading back to work, even if it does rain all day. I have a few gift cards and some amazing sales to keep me busy. A new year means new amazing sales and markdowns. I listed a few of my faves below for you. Ya’ll have a great first week of 2017, and thanks for stopping by!

Happy Halloween!! I celebrated on Saturday at my gal pal’s epic Halloween bash. She transforms her house into a spooky haunted mansion with no corner left un-decorated. I get so mesmerized walking around checking out all the little details. She even changes out all the light bulbs to fit the theme. It’s amazing. I also love it because an epicly decorated party means you can go all out on your costume too! I went as a haunting ghost this year. Tonight, we will be passing out candy/sneaking a few pieces for ourselves.
With October pretty much behind us, it is full steam ahead to Thanksgiving! We are heading to a few Thanksgiving celebrations this year, and I need my look to be comfy for the long day spent traveling, lounging, and eating all the food. I love this sweater because it’s super soft and slightly oversized. Perfect for camouflaging that post-meal food baby. It comes in a few colors, but I love this dark teal color. It works perfect with black jeans and my FAVORITE brown riding boots. Ya’ll I found these babies back in stock this year. I’m not 100% sure if it’s the exact brown shade, the one linked may be slightly darker. I wore these boots so much last year, seen HERE and HERE. They look super cute with jeans, leggings, and dresses.
Hope ya’ll have a great week ahead! Thanks for taking some time to stop by today!

Our first taste of cool fall weather has officially landed here in Houston! I can’t think of a better time to share some of my favorite boots under 200! Full Disclaimer – One pair, the gray ones, are $225 but I really wanted to include a gray pair. These were my favorites. I’m really picky with these shoe guides, and I just couldn’t compromise on that one.
I am still on the fence about buying new boots this year. You may be seeing a whole lot of similar this winter. I am currently in the market for a suede black boot with a heel that I can wear to work with skirts or with leather leggings on weekends. I really like this pair, and they are only $105 which for boots is pretty darn good! So if I decide to invest in a pair, these will be at the top of my wish list.
I think a good boot collection includes both a black and brown flat riding boot, a black suede heeled boot, and a brown leather heeled boot. A few extras would be a fun light tan or gray suede pair, and a fun over the knee boot. Good quality boots are expensive, and I typically buy one pair each fall. My current black suede heeled boots are starting to look pretty worn out, so they are up for replacement for me this year.
I hope ya’ll have a great weekend! I have a busy one celebrating my parents’ 40th Wedding Anniversary! It should be a fun family filled weekend. Thanks for taking the time to stop by. I always appreciate it!
