Since last week I shared a evening rodeo outfit, this week I wanted to give you a outfit to wear during the day. Yep, I pulled out my cowboy boots for this one! I love boots that are a little more simple with the stitching being a neutral color. I also really like the worn in look of some cowboy boots. You know a “I totally did some farm work in these” look. 🙂 One of my favorite things about cowboy boots are the beautiful designs on the boot shaft. It adds such a great detail to the boot and makes each pair unique and different. Cowboy boots are pricey, easily starting around $150 and going up from there. If you are in the Houston area, some of the local western wear shops will start having sales on all things rodeo soon. It’s a great time to buy a pair of boots. I also created a little widget for you at the bottom of this post with more boots available online.
While comfy walking shoes are a must for a full day at the rodeo, light layers are also important. The rodeo hosts both indoor and outdoor events, so I like having a light jacket with me in case the indoor areas are cold. Plus, our rodeo weather sometimes is a little cool at night since it is in March. I love the idea of using a chambray shirt as more of a jacket in this look. During the day, you can easily tie the chambray top around your waist if this happens to be a warmer day. At night or if it’s a cool spring day, you can wear just like this. Using a chambray as more of a jacket, you will not have to tote a bulky jacket around all day. I have a floral tunic on underneath it. Florals and plaids always make me think western wear and rodeo. I also highly recommend a cross-body purse for the rodeo!! The place is crowded and a small bag makes it easier to maneuver through crowds, plus it frees your hands for drinks, food, and shopping!

Happy Friday Friends! I’m closing out the week with a more casual date night outfit for Valentine’s Day. I wanted to keep the look a little festive and somewhat dressy, but still have that casual vibe to it. I immediately pulled for my dark plum denim. These jeans are super comfy because they have lots of stretch! I own lots of neutral tops, so I like having these colored jeans around to pair with them. It is a fun way to add some color to your look. Since I wanted this a little bit dressy for Valentine’s Day, I decided to go with my tie neck blouse. I love these blouses because I feel like they can take any outfit up a notch. With a tie neck blouse, you don’t really need a necklace. I like to use this opportunity to pull out a fun pair of earrings like these fringe ones from Baublebar. I also tossed on a couple simple gold bangles. This outfit would look really cute with a pair of black or nude heels, but I opted for my black riding boots. I wanted to keep the look a bit more casual than heels. February is probably the only month in Texas where I feel like it is actually winter, so I also added in my leather jacket. I like that the outfit will stand alone without the leather jacket too. Places definitely tend to keep it warm and toasty inside when the temps dip below 50, so I will most likely end up taking off the jacket eventually. If you plan on dressing up a bit more, check out my post from Monday which includes some dress ideas all under $100! Have a great weekend and thanks for swinging by the blog this week!

Layering a Cropped Sweater

I have mentioned my love for layering in the cold winter months in previous posts. One of my top ways is layering a cropped sweater with a longer top. In summer months, a long sleeveless tunic or blouse is my go to with skinny jeans and wedges. In winter, I give these tops new life by layering them under a cropped or high low sweater. I look for sweaters that hit at about the waistline of my jeans to allow a few inches of the blouse to peak through the bottom. You may have noticed I tend to buy these types of sweaters in solid colors, so they will match with a large variety of my prints. I started doing this a couple years ago with black sweaters and now have these short sweaters in about 6 or so different colors. This layering combo also works to pair with skinny work pants or skirts for the office.
I wanted to show off how cute these new fave jeans of mine look with heels. Yes these are the same jeans seen HERE with booties and HERE with riding boots. I still need to have them hemmed a bit and plan on taking them in next time I go to Nordstrom. (BTW, if you are a Nordstrom cardholder they hem jeans you buy from them for free. ) The only reason I have not taken them yet is because the last two times I have been I was wearing them. 🙂
I hope ya’ll had a great weekend! I spent mine catching up with friends, watching football, and running just a couple errands. I am off today, so I decided to save all my blog work, weekly meal prep, and laundry for today and just relax during the weekend. I’m working on a fun post for later this week sharing a little about how I stay fit and healthy. So stay tuned for that one, and I hope you have a fabulous week ahead!
