Closet Staples and a Pink Backpack

Ya’ll I am so excited for today’s post, because I am madly in love with my new pink backpack purse! I have had my eye on the Jetsetter from Henri Bendel for quite some time now. I originally went to the store to check out the non-mini version, but it was just a bit too big for what I was looking for. When I saw they had made a mini version, I knew I needed it. It was all about waiting for the perfect color to come along. This pink color was just released earlier this week, and it was the perfect color that I was waiting for. It’s kind of a pink coral color, perfect for spring and summer. My favorite thing about this bag is that it is three bags in one – a backpack, crossbody, and satchel. The beige straps can unhook and move around to create different ways to carry this purse. I have a few trips planned this spring and summer, and this bag is going to be so perfect for travel or just running errands on weekends.
I also recently added a couple closet staples to my wardrobe. One is these new distressed skinny jeans. I like that they have minimal distressing and that the holes are backlined. Best part of these – the price tag! These babies come in at only $88! I did have to size down. I originally ordered my regular jean size, but after about an hour I knew I had to go down a size. I often will wear a new brand of jeans for about an hour around my house with tags on to see how they stretch. This was actually something a salesperson recommended to me once. I don’t do anything major just move around enough to see if they will stretch or not.
My other addition is this black top. I know nothing super special, but a black top like this is so versatile. I currently own one with a dolman/batwing sleeve and wear it all the time. The sleeve prevents me from being able to layer really well with it though which is why I wanted a new one. The 3/4 length sleeve and thin material makes it wearable year round. It comes in a few other color and print options too. I also just saw that a few of them are on sale for 40% off. I’m hoping the white goes on sale soon too. I mean it’s a closet staple. Happy Friday Friends! I’m closing out the week with a more casual date night outfit for Valentine’s Day. I wanted to keep the look a little festive and somewhat dressy, but still have that casual vibe to it. I immediately pulled for my dark plum denim. These jeans are super comfy because they have lots of stretch! I own lots of neutral tops, so I like having these colored jeans around to pair with them. It is a fun way to add some color to your look. Since I wanted this a little bit dressy for Valentine’s Day, I decided to go with my tie neck blouse. I love these blouses because I feel like they can take any outfit up a notch. With a tie neck blouse, you don’t really need a necklace. I like to use this opportunity to pull out a fun pair of earrings like these fringe ones from Baublebar. I also tossed on a couple simple gold bangles. This outfit would look really cute with a pair of black or nude heels, but I opted for my black riding boots. I wanted to keep the look a bit more casual than heels. February is probably the only month in Texas where I feel like it is actually winter, so I also added in my leather jacket. I like that the outfit will stand alone without the leather jacket too. Places definitely tend to keep it warm and toasty inside when the temps dip below 50, so I will most likely end up taking off the jacket eventually. Houston Rodeo Outfit: Plaid and OTK Boots

It is officially Rodeo season in Texas! Every year in February and March rodeo fever invades this great state with Livestock Shows and Rodeos happening all over. Fort Worth is currently in the middle of their show, followed by San Antonio, and then rounding out the bunch is the Houston Rodeo. I have talked before about the Houston Rodeo here and here. It’s basically a carnival, a rodeo featuring things like bull riding and barrel racing, concerts, shopping, and lots of fun food. My friends and I are big fans of the wine garden too. You can often find us there grabbing a glass before we head into the concert.
Over the next few weeks, I wanted to share a few outfit ideas for what to wear to the rodeo. While most people immediately think cowboy boots, I wanted to share an outfit for those of you who may not be ready to shell out a couple hundred for a pair. I think these taupe over the knee boots are perfect for a little wine garden and concert action. I would make sure if you wear a heeled boot that they are comfortable for hours of walking. Sometimes just getting from your car to the entrance is a long walk. On weeknights, my friends and I usually go after work for just a couple hours, so heeled boots are an option for these nights since we do not walk around too much. I wanted to give a little bit of a rustic western feel, so I paired them with my plaid top. I think the two together with a fun pendant necklace create the perfect Houston rodeo outfit. If you are heading to cookoff this year, I would not recommend wearing these suede boots. The smoke coming off all the bbq pits is really strong. I usually have to wash my clothes a couple times to get the strong smell out. It’s why I wouldn’t recommend these boots or any other item that may be hard to wash. You could easily swap them with a pair of leather riding boots for cookoff. Don’t worry I will share an idea or two of what to wear to the rodeo cookoff too, so stay tuned!

Every Closet Needs a Denim Jacket

For years, I resisted buying a denim jacket. I thought it was a just a trend that would soon go away. It also kind of reminded me of junior high. 🙂 One of my good girlfriends/trendsetters had one for a few years. Even though I was resisting the trend, I was always a little jealous of the outfits she put together with her denim jacket. Last year, I decided to give in and purchase one. I mean I live in Texas, denim is our thing right?!? I still felt it was just a trend, so I hit up my local H&M to find one on the cheap. I ended up liking this jacket way more than I realized. It really has lots of versatility. It can both dress up and down an outfit. In spring, I love pairing mine with sundresses. I think it would look cute over a little lace dress or pleated skirt for a fun date night. During fall and winter, I love pairing it with a simple outfit like jeans and a tee to dress it up a little. This casual long sleeve tee doubles as around the house lounge wear for me. Adding a denim jacket really help completes the look and take it outside the house. I added my cute little booties because they make me feel western with my denim jacket. haha.
I hope y’all have a fabulous Friday and an amazing weekend! I am taking my first SoulCycle class tomorrow morning, and I am soooo excited!! I have heard such great things about these classes and love the little mini tour they are doing with Target. Bonus, the class is free! I have been saving the purple tank from Wednesday’s post to wear to the class because cycling classes are like sweat city!! I will definitely be earning my wine!
