I cannot believe I waited so long to buy a chambray shirt!  I am constantly coming up with new ways to wear it.  When I recieved my latest Rocksbox, I immediately knew the edgy look of this necklace would balance perfectly with the casual look of the chambray shirt.  I originally thought about pairing the two with a pair of black skinny jeans and some sky high pumps, but thought it would be fun to find a way to wear this outfit to work.  When I looked to the skirts section of my closet, my black textured skirt quickly caught my eye as the perfect fit to complete my edgy but casual office outfit.  I have paired this chambray with my colorful work skirts, but for some reason partnering it with this black skirt felt like I was living on the edge and breaking the professional attire rules.  Ha!  This skirt’s textured detailing and black color always gives more of a professional suit feel to me.  I felt like the combination of the laid back chambray shirt and black suit skirt was living up to the vibe of the  necklace.   It has spikes for a little edge, but also black and diamond-like stones for a little sophistication.  These three pieces together were definitely a perfect match!

I bought this dress a few years ago to wear to a backyard party in the middle of July. It was one of those summers where the temperatures were already at 100 degrees in June.  I wanted a light sundress that would be good for an early evening BBQ.  I fell in love with this floral pattern because it has a darker background yet still lots of bright pops of color.  I paired it with wedges and a clutch and had a fantastic time at my party.  A month or so passed and I was dying to wear this dress again.  I decided to restyle the dress from a weekend to office look.  The bare shoulders and thin straps were my first office issue to tackle.  The easiest fix for me was a short sleeved cardigan.  I love how the purple shade compliments the floral color pattern of the dress.  This cardigan is super lightweight and short sleeved so it works in warmer months.  I wear this cardigan quite a bit in Spring and early Fall trying to get a few more wears out of some of my favorite dresses!  I plan on looking for a few different colors this year.  I also have a black and a white short sleeved cardigan because those colors go with everything!  I have recently seen some fun white and dark pink blazers in stores and on friends, and I think they would also be a great way to make a summer dress more professional.  The next change to make this office ready was the shoes.  I can get away with wearing wedges in my office, but I know most are not so lucky.  I swapped my sandals for a peep-toe nude pump.  I chose nude because I love how it elongates the leg.   This dress also looks good with dark brown heels.  Best part of this outfit, you can easily transition to drinks on a patio after work by simply taking off your cardigan.  It is just a small add and a quick swap, and you can take your favorite sundresses and make them a little more office friendly.

Lace details can exude such feminine sophistication when done just right.  I found this top a year or two ago at Nordstrom Rack.  I loved the design of the lace, and how I could wear it both to the office and with jeans on the weekend.  It has portions that are completely sheer yet still parts that are a thin cotton to give some coverage.  It came with a matching camisole so the colors blend together perfectly.  I paired it with my lightest gray work pants because I think the light color helps enhance that feminine and sophisticated vibe. These pants are also a few years old from The Limited, but I linked a few others from there.  The Limited and Loft are two of my favorite places to buy work pants.  For starters, they both have great sales, and the length of their pants is perfect for my height when I wear heels.  These pants are on the thinner side which is perfect for our hot summers!  I kept my jewelry fairly light for this look because I wanted the lace details to really be the spotlight of the outfit!  Plus, long necklaces sometimes catch on lace so you have to be careful which pieces you pair with your lace tops.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting at a local restaurant on my lunch break reading a few of my favorite fashion blogs.  I came across one that announced flared jeans were back in style.  The funny thing is I was sitting there in these flared jeans that I love and have been wearing for years.  I never knew they were not in style.  I love wearing these to work for casual Friday because I think the flared look comes off a little more professional than a skinny jean.  It kind of got me thinking about trends and what is in or out.  Anna Wintour made headlines when she mentioned the decline of trends and the rise of  individuality and self-expression.  I personally love this idea!  I think a person should wear whatever they want whether it is on trend or not.  Maybe my flared jeans where not on trend for awhile, but I love them and I kept wearing them.  Next year if they are on the out list, I am going to keep wearing them.  I think a big part of personal style comes from wearing what you love not necessarily what others love.  I have seen people in outfits that I would never wear in a million years, but on them I absolutely love the outfit. Why?  Because they love what they are wearing and it comes across in the way they walk, stand and move. I know I would not be comfortable in that, and it would show big time!  You should love what you wear everyday!  You will be amazed how much your own self-confidence can be improved just by wearing an outfit you love.  If you are spring cleaning your closet like me, ask yourself not is this in style or on trend, but do I love it or would I wear this right now and be happy in it.  Forget the rules and trends, wear what you love!
