Let the layering begin! Get ready because in fall and winter I love to layer! One item I had to add to my closet this fall was a puffer type vest. I didn’t really want it to be puffy, but just that look. I love this quilted vest from Old Navy! It is thin and lightweight which is perfect for a Texas fall (aka it’s still 80 outside today)! This vest comes in two other colors, but I decided to go with this neutral cream color, so I could mix and match with more tops and dresses. I’m really excited to toss this vest on over some of my swing dresses with boots later this year!
Another fun way to layer is with some boot socks. I kind of own quite a few pairs of knee-high socks. I love wearing them around the house this time of year with shorts. It’s kind of my early fall and sometimes winter loungewear style. I also really like to pair them with my boots for a fun peek of color at the top. I like that if I have to take my shoes off at a friend’s house, I’m going to have some cute socks underneath and not some plain ol’ white ones. Chrissy’s Knee High Socks is one of the best online sites whether you want solid, striped, or festive! My Instagram followers may have seen me sporting some striped ones a few weeks ago when the Hurricane kept me cooped up in my house all weekend. I also have some fun seasonal ones and will probably add a Christmas pair this year! Most pairs are around the $8-$9 range and would make really great stocking stuffers! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by the blog today!!

The beginning of November is always the start of my Christmas gift shopping. I always start by making a list of the gifts I will need and then start searching for gift ideas for everyone on my list. This year I’m hoping to help you with a little bit of your gift searching with my new Holiday Gift Guide page. I spend more time then I should online window shopping, so I am putting it to good use and curating a page dedicated to fabulous gift ideas! Even better, my organization OCD kicked in and I created a few sub-categories based on some of my popular holiday gift guides from last year. You can find a direct link to the page in my navigation bar at the top or on my side bar under my pic. In addition to the page, I will also be doing weekly gift guides too! I love putting these together and decided why not do both! If you would like more of something added to the gift guide page or would like to see a dedicated gift guide on something, please shoot me an email or leave it in the comments.
For my first gift guide of the season, I wanted start with something based on time needed for shipping. Personalized and monogrammed gifts are such AMAZING Christmas gifts!! They also take the longest to ship from the time ordered because they often have a production time of 2-4 weeks. I personally love initial and full name necklaces. The Swell Caroline nameplate necklace and this cute script one from Baublebar are both on my personal wish list this year. They kind of remind me of the Carrie necklace from Sex and the City. You can also go simple with just an initial or go big with the Love Always necklace which comes in a few different sizes. If you are looking for something a little romantic or super personal, check out Coordinates Collection. You can put the coordinates of any location like where you got married, first met, or where you call home. I think it is such a sweet gift that can have more of a private or symbolic meaning between the giver and receiver.
I also included a few personalized items for the home. Marley Lilly and The Well Appointed House have tons of cute ideas for personalized home gifts. I probably could have made a gift guide for each site. The Well Appointed Home also has a personalized stamp that can be used for a return address label. A great idea for someone who just moved into a new home. Another good place for a simple monogram gift with no production wait time is Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I have quite a few monogrammed items from them like the towels, cups, and even a wine stopper.
If you are thinking about getting a personalized gift for someone, I highly recommend ordering this week so you don’t have to pay extra for speedy shipping. Most items on this list take 2-4 weeks to produce plus an additional 1-2 weeks to ship. Don’t forget to check out my gift guide page for even more gift ideas!

Well it rained almost all weekend again! I did however sneak out during a small break to snap today’s outfit photos because I have been so pumped to share this outfit with you. This plaid shirt and leather skirt were hanging next to each other in my closet, and it made me realize how perfect they would look together. I love how the camel brown of the skirt compliments the navy and green of the plaid perfectly! Since I was already dressing down this leather skirt with a flannel shirt, I decided to also toss on my new black booties. I have been eyeing these shoes since I first saw them this summer. I was in the market for some black booties under $100, but I kept circling back to these which are over that mark a little. I finally decided that if I’m still want them months later, I could justify going over my budget just a bit. I’m really happy I did because I am obsessed with these booties! I love that they are leather but have a suede look to them. They are really comfy too and fit true to size. I also liked the dip in the front of the shoe. Since I’m short, it helps create the illusion of length in my legs so I can wear them with skirts in addition to jeans.
My necklace was an anniversary gift. I love different and unique jewelry pieces, so this was perfect for me. The company uses reclaimed wood to create some really beautiful things from jewelry to home goods. You can even have items personalized, hello Christmas gifts!! Check back tomorrow for my first holiday gift guide of the season all about personalized and monogrammed gift ideas. I have also started a gift guide page to help you find the perfect gifts all season long, but more on that tomorrow!!

What’s in my Beauty Bag? Travel

So remember that non-stop rain in Houston over the weekend, well it prevented me from getting my outfit photos shot for today’s post. Luckily, I still had this month’s fun What’s in my Beauty Bag to share with you! This month is all about some of my favorite travel beauty products. I am not a light packer, so I am always looking for ways to lighten my luggage. Mostly so I can pack more stuff. 🙂 I also like to look for replacement products to make travel easier. Last year, I headed on a group trip to Napa for a wedding. I wanted to have my nails painted for the duration of the trip and the option to change the color out. I also did not want to carry a bottle of nail polish remover for fear that it might spill and damage my clothes. I ended up finding these nail polish remover pads at my local grocery store. If you are a nail polish addict like me, these are perfect for you! It’s basically a small towelette doused in nail polish remover and perfectly sealed for no spills! One pad worked perfectly for my ten little fingers. Even better these beauties can go in your carry-on if you fly since they aren’t liquid! If you love traveling with perfume, you should check out Pinrose. It is the same concept as the nail polish remover. A small pad with perfume that you can swipe on and then toss. They come in a variety of scents and have a variety pack. (Hello Christmas gift!) These are also great for a carry-on bag too. I also keep a couple in my purse to use before heading to events sometimes. If you want to stick with your favorite perfume, try asking the store for a small sampler. I linked two of my favorite perfumes above that I have small samplers for. Beauty counters sometimes have or may be able to make you a small sampler if you just ask. Sometimes you can also get samples of new perfumes from the perfume counter too.
Makeup is another product that can come in sample or travel sizes. I purchased this Bare Minerals brush awhile back to carry around in my purse for mid-day touch-ups. I like it for travel because I can carry it in my purse or carry-on for touch-ups after a long day of traveling. Many brands have mini or travel size products too. Just google search the brand you wear along with mini or travel. I love my It Cosmetics and many of their products also come in a mini size. These small sizes are also great to carry around in your clutch for holiday parties!
You can’t talk travel beauty products without talking about travel size toiletries. I always hit up those travel bins at the grocery store before a trip. Shave gel, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion can all be find here in perfectly sized for a carry on bottles. If you want to use your regular products, you can invest in some reusable travel bottles. The Container Store is my go-to for travel bottles. They have all shapes and sizes for every product you can think of needing on a trip. Just remember to label the bottles, so you know what is in each one! You can also try my little google tip for makeup on toiletries too. Some brands like Living Proof sell travel sizes on their website in travel kits or just smaller sizes like 1-2 ounce bottles.
One last great travel product is a good train case for your beauty products. The case is harder than just a cosmetic bag, so it can protect your makeup against damage when your suitcase is being tossed on planes or in cars. I love mine from Henri Bendel, because it has lots of little side pockets for brush storage and is pretty durable. It also has a long strap you can attach to carry on your shoulder. If you have any holiday travel plans, I hope you find some of these tips helpful. These are all products that help make my traveling a little easier and help me have space for another pair of shoes!! Have a great weekend and don’t forget the time changes this weekend as we fall back an hour! It’s my favorite time change because the weekend is an extra hour!!
