Now this is the perfect top for a warm fall and not so cold winter! This faux layered sweater consists of a slightly sheer white layer underneath a really lightweight knit sweater. The white layer is full in front and only partial in the back. I love layered looks but somedays it’s just too hot for that. These faux layered tops are the perfect fix. They let me wear cute fall layers while still being cool. Wearing this right now I would probably push the sleeves up because I did start getting a little warm while shooting this outfit.
I would definitely wear this exact outfit to work but I would change out to my skinny black work pants. One of my favorite things right now is mixing pinks and burgundy colors. I think all the different shades work so well together.
By the way these shoes are last season, so I did link a few similar styles. I wore these shoes sooooo much last fall and winter. If you want a great fall shoe to add a pop of color to your outfit, I think you should definitely consider a burgundy heel. They can easily enhance any outfit. I wore this pair so much, I am considering another pair with a higher heel. My pair has a low almost kitten heel, and some days I just want a nice little 4 inch stiletto. I’m thinking about getting a more basic pump, so it will be slightly different than this pair.

What a busy weekend! My parents’ anniversary party was a fabulous success. I’m glad I decided to take off work today because a day to relax is exactly what I need after such a busy weekend.
A few weeks ago, I had my heart set on finding a red and black plaid for fall. I wanted a small buffalo plaid, and a top that could be tucked in or left out. I stumbled upon this one at Old Navy for only $25. They always have online discounts, so you can probably get it for even less! The material is lightweight, so it is perfect for right now when it’s still warm. I love rolling up the sleeves to 3/4 length on plaid shirts.
My immediate styling thought when wearing such a casual plaid shirt is how can I dress this up a bit. Hands down easiest way is to add a cute pair of heels. I went with blush heels because I like how they can give a tall and lean look to your legs. The blush color also doesn’t take away from the colors in the plaid. If you wanted to add color with your shoes, I would probably pick yellow for a bright contrast.
I also love adding on a longer statement necklace to plaid shirts. This one is a couple years old, but I linked the short version. I think this one or this one would be cute to recreate a longer statement necklace look.

How to Wear Bright Colors in Fall

It’s almost October which in Texas means it’s time to go back outside. 🙂 I can’t wait to start enjoying brunch and happy hours outside with friends. A glass of vino, a patio, maybe a little live music – perfection!
I was really excited to find Cabanalife and their dresses which provide sun protection. I never thought about my clothing as sun protection, but theirs has UPF 50 which is the highest protection rating for fabric. They have the cutest little shift dresses just in time for our outdoor season. Houston has so many outdoor events and festivals in October because the weather is usually in the 70s, and I never think to put on sunscreen. I lather it on for the pool or beach, but outdoor wine sipping – not so much. It’s kind of cool to think this cute little dress is helping out.
Their collection has tons of bright colors, so I also wanted to share a few of my favorite ways to wear bright colors in the fall. Don’t think you have to put away all your spring and summer brights just because of fall. I wear many of my cute summer dresses well into October! My top tip is to add a cute pair of ankle boots. These peep toe booties are a great transitional piece and work well with the warm Texas fall.
A second tip is to pair with neutral or fall colors. This khaki color really helps soften the bright turquoise up a bit. You could also pair this turquoise with a camel or cognac brown to really transition straight into fall. I also like to add in complimentary fall colors like this dark purple purse.
Last, layer on lightweight outerwear. Utility vests are a hot fall item, and they pair perfectly with shift dresses. I love how they add a little bit of dimension and shape to the look. If your weather is a little cooler, this dress would also pair perfectly with a denim or brown leather jacket.

When it comes to vintage fashion, the two things that attract me the most are the jewelry and the jackets. I love these kind of tweed Chanel-inspired jackets. These jackets are timeless statement makers. Every fall I see new designs come out, but I personally think the vintage ones are the best ones. This style is a perfect classic fall jacket that can work in a wide array of outfits. I love styling them with jeans to create dressy casual outfits, but you can make them work for the office too.
I love to play with all the colors in the jacket to make sure each ones shines. The dark pink was to me the more dominant eye catching color of this jacket. I wanted my other choices for this outfit to help bring out those other colors. I opted for an olive top underneath to really bring out the olive piping details and green buttons on this jacket. These vintage inspired floral earrings were the perfect compliment to draw out the lighter pink in the plaid pattern.
I added a few modern touches with some flared jeans and a pointy toe heel. This jacket would also look cute with skinny jeans and the tunic untucked. I love this jacket style over fitted shift dresses or pencil skirt ensembles for the office too. You could even dress down the outfit a little like I did HERE.
