Ivory Wool Coat

When my best friend took these photos for me, her initial comment was that this outfit was very Kate Middleton. A compliment I happily accepted because I am British Royalty obsessed over here! I spent our ice storm days this week binge watching a few episodes of The Crown on Netflix. It’s so good ya’ll!
This ivory wool coat really makes the whole outfit come to life. I feel like you could pair this coat with so many dresses and still have a polished and sophisticated look. I love the fit and flare style to add a little shape and personality to the coat when buttoned up. One little detail on this coat that really excited me was the gold buttons. I don’t like when my coat has brown buttons, and I want to wear black shoes. It’s one of those silly little things that bothers me. I’d probably never notice it on someone else, but on me not a fan. Also, we shot these photos on a really cold day, and I can vouch for this wool coat’s warmth.
Despite not living in a super cold area, I still love buying coats and jackets, but I’m not a big fan of spending too much. Living in South Texas, I really only need a coat for a month maybe two each year. It’s one of the things I like about Wilsons Leather. Their coats and jackets are top quality, but in an affordable price range. And yes, they sell more than just leather like wool and trench coats.
I hope ya’ll have a great weekend. I have plans to check out the Oscar de la Renta exhibit at our Fine Arts Museum. He was one of my favorite Red Carpet designers, so I’ll probably easily spend most of a day getting lost in a sea of his dresses. I can’t wait!
I received compensation and this product courtesy of Wilsons Leather, however, all opinions are entirely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Lady in Violet.

Little Black Work Dress & Link Up
Hello Ladies! Happy Thanksgiving Week and Black Friday Sales week too! Who all is lucky enough to be off all week?? I’m working Monday – Wednesday, and then have 4 days of relaxation and sale shopping. I’m going to be sharing a big list of sales and sale finds on Friday. Starting Wednesday, I’m going to do something a little different this year and share sale finds in Instagram Stories. If you want to follow along, just give me a follow at @karen.rock and keep your eyes out for those stories in your feed.
This little black work dress has been months in the making for a blog post. I first found it in September, but it was backordered until October. I checked back a few weeks later and that backorder was now November. While scrolling through my wish list about a week ago, I realized it was finally BACK IN STOCK!!
I own another shift dress by this brand, and it so comfy and requires little to no ironing. This dress seems like it’s going to be that same easy dress, probably why it’s always on backorder. The key detail on this dress is the tie at the waist. It’s the perfect way to add a little shape to a basic shift dress. You can tie it in front or back depending on your preference. It’s like having two different black dresses. If you back tie it, I would consider a long pendant necklace to change up the look.
Also, I have to dish on my new gray tote bag. Another item I have had my eye on for awhile. I went back and forth on this because of the size. I needed a nice bag to carry my laptop in on work days. A tote bag big enough to hold my 13″ computer was bigger than I was used to, so I did a trial run with my reversible tote for a little over a month. After a few days the bigger size didn’t bother me at all, and the best part of the story. By the time I decided, this little gray cutie was ON SALE for about 30% off! Also, if you love the style but wish it was a bit smaller, it comes in a small version too!
It’s a gray with a really slight tan undertone depending on the lighting. I would call it a gray taupe color. I’m excited to have a nice, professional looking purse to carry my computer in for when I’m popping into meetings or events after work. If you love this color, I would act fast. Since it’s already on clearance, once it sells out it’s gone.
Alright ya’ll, don’t forget to link up your latest outfit post in the Style File Link Up today. Thanks for stopping by, and I will see you back here on Friday for some sale shopping and a fabulously cozy outfit too.

Work Wear: Olive Suede Skirt
Hello Ladies! Can you believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away?!? I’m really excited for the short work week next week too, and for some yummy Thanksgiving food. I’m a sides person more than the turkey. I can already taste my grandma’s dressing and pecan pie!
I mentioned last week that I have been wanting to find more work appropriate and trendy skirts for the office. One style I really wanted was a cute suede skirt. I found tons of cute little mini skirts in gorgeous colors, but a work appropriate length proved a bit harder to find.
I have actually had my eye on this skirt for awhile. I was worried it might be too long for my petite height, but I think it fits quite nicely. It’s a great length to pair with boots on colder days. It’s a faux suede material which means it has a little more stretch and movement than a normal suede skirt. This olive suede skirt is also super soft.
The blue and green color combo is a favorite of mine, so I could not pass up mixing this olive skirt with a navy sweater. I went with a short sleeve sweater because well I will get more wears out of it since we don’t have many cold days. It’s a great length, and perfect to pair with pants too.
I’m hoping to pick up a couple more skirts during the Black Friday Sales or Cyber Monday Sales next week. I feel like the sales start earlier every year. I’ll be sure to share some of my favorite sales and sale items here on the blog, so stay tuned. If you are on the hunt for something specific, let me know and I will keep an eye out while I’m perusing the sales.
I hope ya’ll have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

How to Style a Corduroy Skirt & Link Up
Hello Hello! I have been on such a skirt kick lately, especially for work. I feel like skirts are very in this season, so maybe that has something to do with it. I own tons of pencil skirts, like I could probably wear a different one every day for a few weeks. I really wanted to expand my skirt collection recently to include a few in the trending materials like suede, corduroy, and leather.
My one small requirement – it had to be work appropriate. Now, I will say I work in a more business casual environment, so I have little more wiggle room with what I wear to work. A big factor for me in a work appropriate skirt is length. I found lots of adorable skirts, but they all seemed to lean more on the mini side. Great for weekends, date nights, and happy hours, not so much the office.
I was happy to see Loft come out with some great work appropriate skirts in the season’s hottest materials and prints. I bought two so far (also picked up this faux suede one), and I have a few more on my wish list. FYI – I wear a petite in all their skirts.
A FEW MORE SKIRT FAVORITES:
The button front detailing on this skirt provides a great decorative aspect, so it’s not just a basic a-line skirt. The color is autumn pumpkin, and so perfect for fall!! I loved pairing this color with navy and brown, but a black sweater and boots would work too.
My main tip on how to style a corduroy skirt – play with other materials. I love adding in leather touches. I think corduroy mixes really well leather, knits, and cotton/jersey materials. A tucked in knit sweater or slightly cropped and bulky knit would work with this material. Also, play with prints too. Stripes are a neutral for me, but florals and plaid would work really well with corduroy too.
Are you upping your skirt game this season? Which skirt material are you looking to add to your closet this season?
