I had fun styling this poncho for summer, but I am so ready to start wearing this thing in the fall and winter!  When I originally purchased this poncho in the #NSale a couple months ago, this outfit was almost exactly what I had in mind.  I actually pictured it with my tall black riding boots, but it’s still a teeny bit to warm for those beauties.   I typically roll my jeans when I wear booties, but I decided to try tucking this pair into them.  This pair has a more legging fit and is tight at the ankle, so it fits well inside the bootie without looking to bulky around the ankle.  These shoes are a few years old and while looking for similar pairs, I stumbled upon the two gorgeous pairs linked by Nine West. They are not really similar, but I love the design of them. They have cool cutouts on them and are just beautiful so the shoe lover in me had to share them!!  Ponchos are a great layering piece to have around for fall and winter.  They have a blanket look to them, and are perfect paired with a casual tee. I also love this one with a black long sleeved tee.   If you want to be comfy and warm while still looking chic, then a poncho is perfect addition to your look.  I’m someone who is always cold, and I love being able to wrap up in my blanket poncho when I am cold.  This week seemed to go by so slow! One of those weeks where you think it’s Thursday, but it’s really only Tuesday.  My days have been like that all week, and I am so ready for this weekend!! Thanks for stopping by the blog this week! I hope you all have a LOOOOOONG weekend! 🙂

The calendar says Fall, but the weather outside is definitely still in transition mode.  Transitioning seasons is all about mixing pieces from both the past and upcoming season.  For today’s look, I paired a perfect for spring and summer kimono with my favorite fall booties.  I picked up this lightweight kimono last week from the Dao Chloe Dao Boutique in Houston.  First off, if you are in Houston, you need to check this place out.  The boutique features Chloe’s amazing and beautiful designs, as well as more affordably priced items hand-picked by Chloe.  I have been a fan of hers since Project Runway, and love seeing her shows at Fashion Houston.  I love her style and always leave her store with some fun new pieces.  My favorite thing about this kimono is the color scheme.  The colors are a great earth tone for fall, but are on the lighter side which is perfect for spring and summer too.  In summer, I would definitely pair this with some shorts and a tank top.  I managed to find the exact one at an online boutique and linked it above.  I also shared some more kimonos that I think our perfect for transitional weather in the little widget below.  For fall, I am all about pairing kimonos with a simple tee and booties!  These booties are last season, but I linked a near identical pair that cost way less than mine!  When the weather is even cooler, kimonos can also be paired with skinny jeans and riding boots.  If you want to go for a full 70s vibe, pair it with flared jeans instead of skinny jeans.   Thanks for stopping by the blog this week, and Happy Friday!!!

My favorite fall shoe is hands down taupe booties!  The hardest part of putting this little shop guide together was not buying all eight of these!  My biggest recommendation if you are wanting a pair of taupe booties is buy now!!  This shade sells out so quick and soon sizes and styles will start disappearing if they haven’t already.   Fringe is hot right now, so I included a couple pairs with fringe on them. I like how it is on the side and kind of subtle.  The Joie are obviously the splurge shoe of the list, but I saw these in person and they are just so gorgeous!  I definitely want to get a peep toe bootie this fall, because in Texas fall is still warm enough for an open toe shoe.  I haven’t decided if I want this color or black, so I haven’t purchased one yet.  For all my petite ladies out there, look for booties that have a slight dip in the front to wear with dresses.  The dip helps to not create the strong cutoff line when you wear with a dress and gives a longer leg illusion.

I’m also excited to announce that I am finally done with my blog re-design!  Okay, I will probably still move things around here and there, but overall everything is pretty set.  I was really excited to find an affordable pre-fab design from Leap Design.  Pre-fab means I picked from one of their pre-made designs and then installed myself.  I was a little nervous about the install myself part, but it was so easy!!  I seriously set aside a whole weekend to switch and was done in a few hours.  I spent all of August playing with my side bar and my new bottom bar.  I love having all the new spaces to work with.  I love that I was able to add a Current Cravings section to the bottom of my page, so you can see what items are on my shopping wish list.  It connects to a shop wish list I have online, how cool is that!  Leap Design also does custom work too.  Their blog resume list is quite impressive with Dallas Wardrobe, Devon Rachel, and What Courtney Wore to just name a few.  But if you aren’t quite ready to spend hundreds on a design, you should definitely check out their pre-fab designs.  They have some really cute ones!

In addition to my blog re-design, my subscriber newsletter received a face-lift too.  In addition to receiving new posts straight to your inbox, I have also started to include giveaway reminders, special discounts including some that only will be in the newsletter, invites to Houston events, and eventually I hope to include sneak peeks of what will be coming soon to Lady in Violet.  The email only goes out on days when I do a blog post.  If you would like to receive the newsletter, you can subscribe HERE.

Fall items are taking over the stores, and one item you will be seeing everywhere this season is plaid and checked shirts.  I am a huge fan of these for both fall and winter.  I picked this one up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this summer.  While the weather is warmer, I like to roll up the sleeves of my shirts to create a 3/4 length look.  I love that this shirt has a pretty floral lining, so it creates a pretty cuff when rolled up.  If you are already shopping for fall, I recommend picking up a few plaid shirts.   I find the best/affordable ones go first, so stock up now.  I created a widget below of a few more fall plaid shirts I like.  These shirts are super versatile, and I can guarantee you will be seeing my styling them mulitple ways on the blog this season.  I love pairing them with pencil skirts for the office, tall boots and skinny jeans for the weekend, and layering under chunky sweaters and jackets in winter.

A few other hot items this fall, taupe booties and black skinny jeans.  My booties are from last year, but I found a nearly identical pair from Sole Society (linked above).  I wore these so much last year with cuffed jeans of all colors.  The taupe shade is the perfect color to be able to mix with a multitude of colors and prints.  If you keep an eye on my current cravings at the bottom of my site, you have seen a few taupe booties pass through the list.  Black skinnies are another hot item!  You can tuck them into tall boots or cuff and wear with booties.  I pair mine with all sorts of tops from tunics, chunky sweaters, slim fit turtlenecks, button down shirts, and just plain old t-shirts too.  All three of these items are going to be fall wardrobe staples that can be remixed into different outfits all season long.

Today is the last day to get your pair of DL1961 denim 30% off with code KAREN30.  This brand is a bit on the pricey side with pairs ranging in the $150-$200 zone, so you are saving a pretty penny with a 30% discount!

PS – Congrats to Rae the winner of the My Kind of Lovely Gift Card Giveaway!!
