How to Layer Tops in Winter

Happy Friday!! I’m so ready for this 3 day weekend! I have TWO girls’ nights planned and a relaxing Sunday with my boyfriend on the schedule so far. I’m also hoping to tackle some blog work and little tasks around the house. Hopefully, it will be a good combo of fun, relaxing, and productive.
Living in a warmer climate during winter months, usually means I plan lots of layered outfits. Our Houston weather can go from 80 to 50 in a day, and cold outdoors usually means cranked up heat indoors. To create the perfect layered look, I want all the pieces to work well together and stand alone if need be. Keep reading for a few of my tips on how to layer tops in winter months.
A white button up blouse is a great starter layer underneath a sweater. It gives a polished and professional look. If you get to hot, you can easily remove this layer and go with just the sweater. You can also opt to remove the sweater and go with just the white button up, but I find sometimes sweaters leave behind lint on a white top.
A loose fit sweater is the perfect middle layer. I look for sweaters that will easily fit over another top and not show any possible bunching or shirt buttons. I also just prefer looser layers for a more comfortable fit. This sweater has a boxy fit and is the perfect amount of loose to fit over my button up blouse. It’s also a good length so that the white peaks out just enough at the bottom.
My final layer is some type of outer layer like coat, jacket or cardigan. A layer that can be easily removed or kept on depending on the temp. I choose my outerlayer based on the outside temp and where I’m headed. For a night out with friends, I usually opt for a jacket, and for work, typically a cardigan. Any time the weather is dipping in the low 50s or lower, I grab a coat.
My Club Monaco trench coat was a semi-splurge find a few years ago. I found it on sale during Black Friday which brought it more to my price range. A classic trench coat is must have for any closet. It works with both professional and casual looks and keeps you warm. Sometimes when I’m feeling a little extra, I will do the no arms off the shoulder look, usually at events and parties with no coat check. I think this works well with trench coats and blazers, not so much thick wool coats.
There you go, pretty simple and easy. Hopefully this also including items you already have in your closet! Hope ya’ll have a fabulous weekend! Thanks for swinging by this week!

How To Wear a Winter White Outfit

Winter outfits tend to lean more to the darker side of the color spectrum, but occasionally I love to put on a winter white outfit. If you want to give it a try this season, below are a few of my tips on how to wear winter white.
1) Add in a jewel tone piece of jewelry to add a fall/winter color to the look.
2) Layer with another lighter colored piece. I like to use colors like beige, blush pink, and light gray.
3) Add shades of brown in your shoes and bag. I think the brown adds an earth tone appeal to the overall look. You could also opt to go with light taupe colors too.
You can try just one of these with your winter white or all 3 like I did in this outfit. If your winter white includes a sweater, you may opt for just colorful jewelry. You may opt for simple gold jewelry and brown or taupe shoes. You can play around with these 3 ideas to mix and match with your outfit.
Christmas party season officially kicks off for me this week with my first party of the season. It’s a fun after work event with my sorority alum group. My alum group has lots of activities throughout the year, and I have not been able to make it out to as many lately. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone!

Jewel Tones for the Holidays

Happy Friday!! I’ve been enjoying a nice long weekend since yesterday. I like taking a few days off in early December to knock out some holiday shopping before the crowds start. It was already starting to get crowded, so I’m happy to have tackled most of my gift list. With that and my sale shopping, I’m almost done!
When I saw this top, I was immediately drawn to the jewel tone dark pink color. It’s such a luxe looking color, and I knew it would be perfect for the holiday season. Sometimes you just want something other than the normal reds, greens, and sequins. The material has this rumpled satiny look that also adds a little fancy to it. For a dressy casual holiday look, I paired it with my black jeans and suede boots.
You can easily make this top work with a pencil skirt, heels, or leather leggings to change up the look to match your holiday party. You could also pair with a gold sequin skirt for a super festive look. I love the way jewel tones look with gold sequins! This top comes in a few other colors too.
The boyfriend and I have fun little date night planned downtown this weekend. We figured we would get a fancy night in for just the two of us before the holiday parties start to kick in to full gear. I’m following that up with a super relaxing Sunday to finish off my long 4day weekend! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend too!

Black Metallic Top for All Your Holiday Parties

It’s that time of year, bring out all the metallic details and sequins! If ever there was a time for getting away with wearing sequins and metallics, it’s the holiday season. You can wear them to Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas parties, holiday happy hours, and New Year’s Eve parties. Every year, I add something new to the mix.
Since my NYE plans are shaping up to be pretty low key this year, so far I haven’t added a new sequin top. I’m really considering a cute sequin cami though to pair under a blazer. It’s the perfect outfit to look super chic with a little sparkle.
What I did opt for this year was a top with a hint of metallic detailing. This black metallic top will be perfect to carry me through the entire holiday season. The details are subtle enough for a casual Thanksgiving dinner, chic enough for a holiday happy hour, and pair this top with a black leather skirt for a fabulous office party or NYE event.
This top has a few other details that I love to make it feel a little dressier like sheer sleeves and a cute smocked cuff at the wrist. I wore a cami underneath it. If you are wanting to wear this to work or a family event, it may be a little to low cut. For parties, I think it would be fine.
If you are in the mood to add a little sparkle to your holiday wardrobe, I found more tops below. I have everything from subtle to statement depending on your sparkle mood.
