It’s a funny story how I came to find this shift dress. I was shopping the Nordstrom Summer Sale a few weeks back, and the lady perusing the sale dresses next to me stopped to tell me how fabulous this dress was. She told me she loved it so much she had come back to buy it in another color, and it was under $100. Ok, I decided I had to check out this dress. First up, it comes in a variety of fun summer colors and it was hard to pick just one. I finally settled on this pretty light blue because I had multiple dresses in the other color options. I always love a good shift dress especially one that doesn’t wrinkle easy. This is such a great “I’m running late to work and need something quick, easy, and still professional looking” dress. This color is that perfect shade of light blue that it would work with both silver and gold accessories. One easy way to change up a look is by changing up your jewelry, so I like that this works so well with both options. After wearing this to work one of those running late days, I completely understand why she came back for another color! I have been contemplating doing the same!!

Ya’ll, there is A LOT of color on the blog this week! I am definitely becoming a slow convert into loving wearing bright colors!!! This dress is just the icing on the cake! It is super bright pink, such an awesome color to wear this summer. I am a big fan of Everly dresses because they are such light and easy dresses. They do sometimes run a little big, so you may need to go down a size. I picked this one up at the Bevello grand opening a few weeks ago, that store was a plethra of bright colors! I was excited to see that they carried some of my favorite brands like Everly, BB Dakota, and House of Harlow.
With my new colorful wardrobe coming together, I have had to rework how I accessorize a bit. I usually wear a very neutral color palette with lots of black, so I can accessorize with just about any color I want. With all thes bright colors, I have to pay a little more attention. I am a fan of mixing colors, like I think this dress would look fabulous with turquoise jewelry. I have noticed I am really starting to like wearing white jewelry. I think it really pops against the color versus wearing it with an all black look. Although I would totally still wear this necklace with a black top. I have always been a fan of all the fun colors of Kendra Scott jewelry, but I also love how much she gives back to the community. One week from today, I will be joining my fellow Houston area ZTA Alum for a Kendra Scott Gives Back Party benefiting the ZTA Foundation and MD Anderson. This party is just one of the fun Think Pink Houston events happening this year! I have already started planning what I am going to buy at the event. These earrings are definitely on the list! The heat and humidity are officially here in Houston! We were graced with a little rain break this weekend, finally!! I, of course, made a dash to the pool for a couple hours to try and get just a little bit of sun on Saturday. In addition to my blogger brunch I mentioned on Friday, I also attended the Burdlife Trunk Show in River Oaks. If you are looking for affordable statement jewelry, look no further than Burdlife! I was able to peruse their current jewelry up close and in person, and it is beautiful! It was hard to only leave with a few pieces, but I did just hit up the Nordstrom triple points event and may have spent too much, as usual. I have been looking for more bright and colorful dresses that I can wear to work and on weekends. I originally wanted this shift dress in teal, but I thought the orange color would be taking me a little outside of my normal color palette. And yes the color is called tomato, but it is not red. When I read the color, I was concerned the dress would be redder in person, but it is definitely a bright orange. This bright color provided the perfect backdrop for my new statement necklace. I love shift dresses!! I love the loose fit, the comfort, the ease, and the potential to belt for a whole new look. The right shift dress can be so extremely versatile! The one I am wearing today was a Cyber Monday steal from Piperlime (and unfortunately now sold out), but no worries I linked some similar dresses that I are just as great. The cobalt blue color of the dress only enhances its versatility. It really is the perfect shade of blue. I think this shade of blue is great for so many different events, like weddings, showers, work, happy hour events, theater events, I could go on and on. Not only is this a great shade of blue for an array of events, but the accessory options are just as endless. A shift dress is great for pulling out the super long necklaces, but the crew neck of this dress will also go great with a showstopping statement necklace. You could go with something bright like yellow or coral, or a darker shade like a black or maroon statement necklace, and they would standout perfectly against this color. I have also worn my trio of gold necklaces with this dress for a fashion event. Then there are the shoes, again the color options are endless. I love pairing this shade of blue with a red or dark pink. For all my petite friends out there, a nude shoe is a great way to create an illusion of length for your legs. Nude shoes are my secret weapon when I forget to hem a dress and the length is just a tad longer than it should be for my height. While this shade of blue is bright and bold and can stand alone all by itself, this color also works great as a neutral to allow other pieces to standout as well.
On a different note, I am so excited about my new ABOUT page. When I first started my blog, I wrote one that I liked, but I can’t lie I was not in love with it. BUT over the weekend, I felt super inspired and finally sat down and wrote a new one. I am so in love with it, and feel it truly expresses me, my love for personal style and fashion, and my inspiration behind Lady in Violet.
