Out of My Comfort Zone

I am a fan of solid colors and the occasional small print, but a bold graphic print that is a little out of my comfort zone. While shopping at H&M over the weekend, I saw this top and thought it was really cool and fun. The design was not something I would normally wear, but I immediately knew this top would go great with my new Paige jeans. So I decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and get it. I’m not going to lie, I am still a little hesitant about this top. It’s not that I don’t like this top because I absolutely adore it! But this top definitely stands out among the other items in my closet. I think it is fun and pretty, but it is definitely different from what I might normally pick up. Every so often, I love buying something that is a little out of my style comfort zone. I have found some great clothes by doing this. It pushes my style to a new and exciting level, and make me a little braver the next time I am out shopping. I also love that I can pick up these pieces for reasonable prices at places like H&M. This top is under $30!
I have to mention my new Paige jeans for a minute. I picked them up this weekend at Nordstrom. I have to brag about the jeans department at Nordstrom. I love how knowledgeable they are about their jeans. I always have a slew of questions when buying a new brand of jeans. Will they stretch? Will they fade? Do these look OK or too tight? They know it all! I love that they wear the jeans and can tell you from their experience how they fit after you wear them for a bit. Plus, they will hem them for you FOR FREE! I am 5’3 so my jeans are almost always too long so I love the free hem! If you ever are in the market for a new pair jeans, try the Nordstrom jeans department out!

One of my favorite weekend activites is brunch with my girlfriends! Champagne, gossip, good food – what’s not to love! My girlfriends and I like to hit up different spots all around the Houston area, always looking to try something new. For brunch with my girls, I try to keep my look simple, casual and chic. This blouse was on my must buy list when I hit the Cyber Monday sales this year. I love the effortless look a silk blouse has when paired with skinny jeans. You know I love loose and flowing tops! This one gives me that feel, while still having a little structure. I also love the cream color because it can be paired with so many things! For work, I can wear this blouse under cardigans and sweaters, or even under a sleeveless dress. I definitely need more silk blouses! Fun fact about my clutch, it is actually a crossbody. You have seen me wear it before here. The strap is removable and converts into a nice little clutch. I also have to mention these shoes! I love the cutouts on them! I debated over these shoes for months! I had fallen in love with a picture of them online and was not sure if I would like the look of the cutouts once I put the shoe on. I took the plunge and purchased the nude color (these also come in black) and have been in love! I really like how they look with a cuffed jean, adding a little glamour to an otherwise casual look. I also like how they sort of look like a bootie, but when you take a second look you realize oh wait those are heels! I’m looking forward to pairing these with some fun dresses this spring. I am ready for brunch, bring me a mimosa!! I am also sooo ready for this nice long three day weekend! AND the sun finally came out in Houston yesterday, so it is definitely going to be the perfect brunch weather! Have a fabulous weekend!

It’s finally Wednesday! After two short work weeks, this week seems to be moving at a snail’s pace. Short work weeks also mean Wednesdays become casual workdays for me. Last Wednesday, I headed to the office in black skinny jeans and this fabulous Everly tunic. For casual work days, I follow a few rules for myself. One – no ripped or faded jeans. Two – No thin straps. Three – Something comfortable! Friday is one of my busiest days of the work week, so number three is important for me. A flowy blouse fits the bill perfectly. I love this one I purchased from Threadsence last year. It has really cool leather detailing, which is perfect for a little office to happy hour casual Friday look. Unfortunately, it is no longer available, but I did find a dress version at a small online boutique that would look awesome with leggings. Of course, I live in these Lucky Brand skinny jeans. I like wearing my black skinny jeans to work because they kind of look like work pants from a distance, a little casual deception. If I am not wearing these on a casual workday, I usually pick another super dark denim pair. I think the darker colors still look professional for the office setting. I topped off my casual workday look with one of my favorite gold jewelry designers, Gorjana. You have probably noticed most of my gold jewelry comes from her, and I added a few new pieces over the holidays! Her jewelry is great quality and so beautiful in person. Her site even gives you tips on the perfect way to layer her necklaces! Today may not be a casual workday, but it is the half way mark! Happy hump day everyone!

Comfy, Casual, Cozy and Coffee. That pretty much describes my post-Christmas 3-day weekend! My December seemed to fly by, but it was still jam packed with fashion events, family gatherings, a Disney vacation, sorority alumnae fun, and Christmas parties galore. Oh my gosh, I am getting tired just remembering it all. As much as I love the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I also love the kick back and relax part at the end. It was a cold and rainy weekend here in Houston, and I took advantage of the drizzly weather to relax and regroup from the busy month.
When the temperatures drop, I love a cozy turtleneck! It is also an excuse to be a bit lazy and pull my hair back into a very messy bun. The length of this turtleneck fits perfect over my favorite pair of black skinny jeans. I like that it is not to long so I can pair it with over the knee boots. Since I am a petite 5’3, I like there to be a good size gap between the end of my sweater and the top of my boots. I love over-sized sweaters, but I don’t want them to swallow me whole! My sweater, jeans, and boots are all currently on sale!! It’s time to start taking advantage of some of those end of the year deals! It also means it is time to start putting away my Christmas decorations… maybe I’ll give them one more day.
