Lace details can exude such feminine sophistication when done just right.  I found this top a year or two ago at Nordstrom Rack.  I loved the design of the lace, and how I could wear it both to the office and with jeans on the weekend.  It has portions that are completely sheer yet still parts that are a thin cotton to give some coverage.  It came with a matching camisole so the colors blend together perfectly.  I paired it with my lightest gray work pants because I think the light color helps enhance that feminine and sophisticated vibe. These pants are also a few years old from The Limited, but I linked a few others from there.  The Limited and Loft are two of my favorite places to buy work pants.  For starters, they both have great sales, and the length of their pants is perfect for my height when I wear heels.  These pants are on the thinner side which is perfect for our hot summers!  I kept my jewelry fairly light for this look because I wanted the lace details to really be the spotlight of the outfit!  Plus, long necklaces sometimes catch on lace so you have to be careful which pieces you pair with your lace tops.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting at a local restaurant on my lunch break reading a few of my favorite fashion blogs.  I came across one that announced flared jeans were back in style.  The funny thing is I was sitting there in these flared jeans that I love and have been wearing for years.  I never knew they were not in style.  I love wearing these to work for casual Friday because I think the flared look comes off a little more professional than a skinny jean.  It kind of got me thinking about trends and what is in or out.  Anna Wintour made headlines when she mentioned the decline of trends and the rise of  individuality and self-expression.  I personally love this idea!  I think a person should wear whatever they want whether it is on trend or not.  Maybe my flared jeans where not on trend for awhile, but I love them and I kept wearing them.  Next year if they are on the out list, I am going to keep wearing them.  I think a big part of personal style comes from wearing what you love not necessarily what others love.  I have seen people in outfits that I would never wear in a million years, but on them I absolutely love the outfit. Why?  Because they love what they are wearing and it comes across in the way they walk, stand and move. I know I would not be comfortable in that, and it would show big time!  You should love what you wear everyday!  You will be amazed how much your own self-confidence can be improved just by wearing an outfit you love.  If you are spring cleaning your closet like me, ask yourself not is this in style or on trend, but do I love it or would I wear this right now and be happy in it.  Forget the rules and trends, wear what you love!

OH Hello Color!  When I first saw this skirt, I could not get over how beautiful the color and cut of this blue maxi skirt was.  I picked it up, admired it, and then put it back on the rack.  As beautiful as it was, the bright and bold color was a little scary for me.  As I continued my tour of the new Topshop, I kept coming back to this skirt.  I had to try it on, I mean I am trying to add more color to my closet and this is colorful!  I seriously did not want to take this skirt off!  I have been wanting to add more maxi skirts to my wardrobe, because I think they are perfect to wear in spring!  I love that this one has two slits on either side, because it makes walking so much easier. Plus, it creates gorgeous movement when you walk.  The bright color scared me at first, but as I stood in the dressing room I imagined all the things I could wear with it.  I thought about yellow tube tops for summer or black fitted sweaters for fall and winter.  I could style this skirt year round, I was sold!  I was also sold on this fun white top, also from Topshop.  I love that you can put any color tank top underneath it, and you have a new top.  I partnered it with a light blue to balance the bright blue of the skirt in today’s look.  I think this top would look pretty awesome with a neon color tank underneath to help subdue the color a bit.  This top has so many possibilities! I cannot wait to share them in some upcoming posts!

** Rocksbox Jewelry Subscription c/o

Before I talk about my outfit today, I want to thank Katherine of Katherine’s Corner and Holly of While I’m Waiting for sharing my Taylor Blue post from last week as a featured post on their sites!  I love sharing my fashion addiction on this blog, but I also love raising awareness for amazing organizations trying to make a positive difference in this world.  Thank you so much for helping me spread the word about the Taylor’s Gift Foundation!

Now on to the fashion!  So I briefly touched on the special request feature that is part of the Rocksbox subscription service on Friday.  I think this feature is pretty cool, and definitely something I am going to try again.  When you return your rocksbox set, you can write a review of each of the jewelry pieces.  You can tell them if you loved it or hated it, and why.  At the end of the review is a special request box where you can ask for something specific like jewelry for a special occasion, a wishlist item you have been dying to get your hands on, or in my case just a type of jewelry you have considered purchasing.  My request was simple, a statement necklace with a clear stone and no color.  I have browsed various websites looking at such necklaces always hesitant to buy because I did not know if I would wear it enough. This was the perfect chance to try one out.  My stylist came through and sent me pretty much exactly what I asked for, a no color statement necklace.  I wore this thing everywhere – the Rodeo, the Topshop Party, grocery shopping, and work to name a few places.  I wanted a necklace with no color so that I would have more variety with what I could pair it with, but I still managed to wear it with mostly black and white outfits.  (Baby Steps on the adding more color thing!)  I really liked this style of necklace and am more willing to purchase something similar in the future.  I chose not to purchase this one because I kind of want one with smaller stones.  That is the joy of Rocksbox, no pressure to purchase.  You can love what they send you, but there is no obligation to buy anything.  I’m working on a Final Review of my experience with Rocksbox to post in the coming weeks.  If you have any questions about the service, feel free to leave them in the comment section or shoot me an email. I will try to answer them in my final review post.  Don’t forget you can still receive your first month free with code LADYINVIOLETXOXO.
