I am so excited for the time change. Yes, I hated losing an hour of sleep, but I LOVE that the days are longer now! When it gets dark early, my brain thinks “It’s time for bed.” In winter, I can easily go to bed at like 8, but I try to hold out until 9. The longer daylight hours make me soooo much more productive.
We had lots of fun at the Rodeo Friday night. We ended up being in a suite with free food, so we decided to save our fried rodeo food binge for another trip. The concert was amazing! Darius Rucker did a great job of mixing his country music with his Hootie and the Blowfish hits. I hope you got a chance to check out some of my Snapchat snaps from the night!
This week on the blog, I am sharing some Easter outfit ideas. Easter falls on March 27th this year which is only a couple weeks away. Whenever Easter is in March, I feel like it sneaks up on me. I always expect it to be in April.
This first look is kind of a casual Easter outfit. For holidays, my casual attire still tends to have a bit of a dressy aspect to it. Both my top and jeans were purchased during the Shopbop sale a few weeks ago. I love this top! This top is also supposed to be able to be worn as a dress. I feel like I need a tan for that because it’s kinda short. I love the floral print, super pastel color, and all the movement when I walk. Plus, hello I can eat like all Grandma’s desserts in this top. 😉
Last summer I tiptoed ever so slowly into wearing white denim, and this year I have a feeling I’m going to wear it so much my other jeans are going to be jealous. I originally wanted these AG white jeans which I own in blue and LOVE, but my size was out. I decided on these Paige ones, because I love the dark denim version I own. The denim fabric is nice and thick which means no worries about being see through. They really hold their shape too. I can easily wear mine multiple times without the fabric over-stretching and becoming saggy. I have definitely realized that paying a little extra for denim is worth it. I find they don’t stretch as much, and so far the ones I have had for awhile still look pretty new. I know it is still months away, but I’m already planning on buying a couple pairs of denim in the big Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year.

One of my favorite things about visiting my parents’ house is how peaceful and relaxing the trips are. The older I get the more I enjoy just sitting on a patio enjoying my morning coffee or evening wine. Even at my own house, I love sitting on my patio sipping my morning coffee while Harlow sunbathes. March and April are prime time for patios in Houston. Eventually even 6am will be too hot to sit outside, so I am enjoying all my patio time. I do find it funny that when I was a kid we would totally make fun of my dad for wanting to just sit outside and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. We would always be like but there is no TV out there, what do you do, just sit there?!?! Now here I am becoming my father and enjoying my tv free outside patio time.
I always pack a comfy semi-lounge outfit for my parents’ house. I just picked up this floral shirt from Anthro, and I am in love. It is so soft, and I’m kinda obsessed with the purple floral print. I don’t usually like gray tees for summer because the 100 degree sweat marks aren’t cute, but I made an exception for my pure love of the floral print. It also comes in 6 solid colors too! I’m thinking about buying the white one, because you can never have too many great plain white tees.
A note on the earrings I’m wearing, I made them at the color bar. They are silver with the purple jade stone. If you have never played at the Kendra Scott color bar, I highly recommend it! You kind of get to feel like a jewelry designer for a hot minute. It’s really fun!
I am finally making a trip to the Houston Rodeo tonight to see Darius Rucker or as I keep calling him Hootie and the Blowfish. 🙂 I really like both his music styles, so I’m super pumped to see him and eat some fried rodeo food! When I originally went boot shopping, I was looking for a casual pair I could wear with my skinny jeans. I wanted a pair that would have a little room between the jean and boot, and I wanted them to hit just below the knee. With such specific wants, I really wanted to be able to try boots on in the store and not just order online. On a lunch break one day, I swung by Nordstrom to do a little boot shopping. I picked out these boots because visually they seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, but the added surprise was how cute they looked with my work dress. I love the casual aspect they gave to my swing dresses. I think this floral dress is my favorite to pair with these boots. It reminiscent of a boho chic vibe, but it also reminds me of a fun look for some Texas County Fair style. I grew up attending our county fair every year, and the look for me had to me a good mix of stylish and practical. One of the fair activities included walking through the animal barn to see my friends and family and their farm animals. You don’t know what you might be stepping through, and you definitely do not wear cute shoes to that. A great pair of riding boots like these would have been so perfect back in my high school days!! The county fair was also a popular date night activity with rides, dances, and a good ole BBQ Cookoff. This dress is perfect for that cute and feminine aspect of a fair outfit. If you are ever in the Houston area around the end of September, I recommend checking out the Fort Bend County Fair! If you are in the Dallas area this time of year, definitely check out the Texas State Fair. I went last year for the first time, and it is a fun experience from seeing Big Tex to all the delicious fried food! I hear this year there is fried lobster with champagne gravy. If you have been and tried it, I’d love to know what you thought of it!!

Before I talk about my outfit today, I want to thank Katherine of Katherine’s Corner and Holly of While I’m Waiting for sharing my Taylor Blue post from last week as a featured post on their sites! I love sharing my fashion addiction on this blog, but I also love raising awareness for amazing organizations trying to make a positive difference in this world. Now on to the fashion! So I briefly touched on the special request feature that is part of the Rocksbox subscription service on Friday. I think this feature is pretty cool, and definitely something I am going to try again. When you return your rocksbox set, you can write a review of each of the jewelry pieces. You can tell them if you loved it or hated it, and why. At the end of the review is a special request box where you can ask for something specific like jewelry for a special occasion, a wishlist item you have been dying to get your hands on, or in my case just a type of jewelry you have considered purchasing. My request was simple, a statement necklace with a clear stone and no color. I have browsed various websites looking at such necklaces always hesitant to buy because I did not know if I would wear it enough. This was the perfect chance to try one out. My stylist came through and sent me pretty much exactly what I asked for, a no color statement necklace. I wore this thing everywhere – the Rodeo, the Topshop Party, grocery shopping, and work to name a few places. I wanted a necklace with no color so that I would have more variety with what I could pair it with, but I still managed to wear it with mostly black and white outfits. (Baby Steps on the adding more color thing!) I really liked this style of necklace and am more willing to purchase something similar in the future. I chose not to purchase this one because I kind of want one with smaller stones. That is the joy of Rocksbox, no pressure to purchase. You can love what they send you, but there is no obligation to buy anything. I’m working on a Final Review of my experience with Rocksbox to post in the coming weeks.
