I talked a bit earlier this week about updating my arm stack, and one big missing piece of the puzzle was a watch. I struggled with picking one out because I wear multiple jewelry metals and could not decide which metal to buy a watch in. I’m not quite to the mixing metals stage yet. I heard about Jord Wood Watches and was definitely intrigued. I mean for starters I had never heard of a wood watch before, and I love finding new things that are not everywhere yet. Also, no which metal to go with decisions!! They have various wood colors from a neutral beige maple to a more natural brown to this gorgeous cherry color. I opted for this color because I wanted a watch that would stand out against my bracelets, but would also compliment all metal colors. When I wear this with gold, the warm cherry tones really shine, but toss on some silver and the cooler side of this color comes out. I just picked up a rose gold bangle and it was like a match made in heaven. This color also mixes well with my wardrobe colors from brown or black shoes to bright or neutral colors. Another little thing about this watch is that it is so light! Some watches feel heavy to me, and when you are adding multiple bracelets as well, weight matters! I chose one of the skinnier band versions, because I tend to stack up my bracelets especially on weekends. I mainly style this watch in the middle of my arm stack. I like the symmetry, and I think it helps the watch steal a little of the spotlight. If you like thicker watches, they have some different styles with thicker bands and faces. You should definitely check out their site and all the cool watch options. Happy Friday!!!!

I can’t believe it is almost July!! Today, I am heading to Charleston, SC for the Southern Blog Society Conference. I am so excited to meet bloggers who I have only known through Instagram or by reading their blog. I am also really excited to learn more about this fun and crazy world of blogging. The blogging community is so amazing with everyone willing to share their stories and knowledge! I am also hoping to get out and a explore the historical parts of Charleston. If you have any recommendations from eating to shopping to must see tourist stops, please leave them in the comments or email me!
With great American history on my mind and the 4th of July just around the corner, I thought I would share a little patriotic holiday look with you today. Navy and white is one of my favorite color combos to wear for the 4th! I like that it is subtle nod to the patriotic colors, but not too over the top. I have always been a fan of embroidered tops, and love the details on this one! I especially like that the embroidery goes all the way to the bottom of the top. The outline helps create a bit of a slimming effect. If you want to add a subtle hint of red you can always add some red sandals or fun red jewelry like earrings or bracelets.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! I am off to catch my flight!! I’ll be sharing photos of my conference adventures on Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat (ladyinviolet). You can also search for #SBScon to see what everyone is sharing! I will also be putting together a fun post-conference post to share about my SBScon experience. Ok, I think it is beyond obvious how excited I am for this trip! See you soon Charleston!

How to Style a Colored Satchel

I haven’t decided what my favorite color to wear with this teal bag is yet, but it is definitely between blue and dark pink. A few weeks ago, I shared a few tips on purchasing a colored purse, so I figured I would share a tip on how to style a colored satchel. The shocking truth though ya’ll is this tip is super similar to one of the purchasing tips. When you carry a colored satchel on a daily basis, you quickly have to love color mixing. It is a huge part of styling this purse. I am not going to wear this with a teal or green dress. I am going to style with either other cool colors like blue to slightly blend in, or with fun shades of pink or purple to allow it to pop. If you aren’t quite ready for a full on two-tone look, you can start small like in today’s outfit. Overall my look is mainly white with the jeans and the background of the top which really allows the green of the purse to pop and take the spotlight. I also love how the green color pops against a dark pink. The print covers about half the shirt which can ease you into color mixing.
If you have found a colored satchel you love and need help with what colors to wear it with, please feel free to email me (karen@ladyinviolet.com) and I would be happy to give you some style advice! I also listed some of the summer purse colors I have seen in stores below along with a few colors I would wear them with. Although, I would advise to just use as a guide because sometimes the funnest part of color mixing is putting the unexpected colors together! If you want to see more ways I have styled this bag, head to my Instagram where this bag is popping up on a weekly basis in my #ootd posts. Last, I know some of you loved this color, so I linked a few additional Henri Bendel bags that are still available in it.
