Happy Friday!! Anyone else have a 3-day weekend?  I have a jam packed weekend, so I’m really excited to have Monday off to re-cooperate and work on blog things.  It is suppose to go below freezing this weekend here in Houston for a couple days, so I will be pulling out all my winter things to stay warm!

Since we are right in the middle of the winter season, I wanted to share a few of my casual winter basics.  I have always been a proponent of keeping  a stock of basics in your closet for each season.  Items you can mix and match into other outfits.  This year, I plan to share more of my basics for each season with you.  Also, keep in mind my winter is typically in the 50s, so my basics may be a little different than yours, especially if snow is a regular thing for you.

Long sleeve tees and thermal henley tops are a go to in my closet.  I wear them around my house, toss them on to run errands, layer them under cardigans, jackets, and sweaters.  They make the perfect base layer to all your winter outfits.  I own several black and white ones all with different fits.  I love super fitted thermal henleys for wearing around the house or to layer if I’m going to be outdoors.  I have had my eye on this Splendid one for years. It’s a bit of a splurge. I picked mine up on a Black Friday sale.  It’s is super soft and comfy!

Dark blue, black and gray skinny jeans are another winter staple for me.  Something I can wear with heels or tuck into a tall boot.  I love pairing skinny jeans with an oversized sweater and boots.  Skinny jeans are a year round staple for me, but the darker colors are my go to for the winter season.

I change purses with seasons, and I love a black purse for winter.  I have this same bag in pink for spring and summer.  I wear lots of black year round, but in winter even more than normal.  I love having a simple black bag to go with all my dark outfits.

Fun fact, I don’t typically wear toe nail polish in January unless I start shooting Spring early for the blog.  I read once it’s good to let your nails breath, so every January I go polish free.  It’s typically the coldest month here, and the one month out of the year that I will not be wearing open toed shoes.  A comfy pair of flats are a must have for me for running errands on days when it’s too warm for boots.  I picked up this gray Tory Burch pair last fall.  I wear them so much!!!  They are a splurge, but worth it!  Another Black Friday sale purchase, and one I will probably make again this year for a black or nude pair.

A few other casual winter basics for me include leather jackets to add instant chic to any outfit, a black boot because it works with the colors in my closet, and a black beanie and set of gloves.  Many of my basics are black because that works so well with my wardrobe, but you could also do gray or brown if it would fit your closet better.

What are some of you must have winter items?

Currently Coveting: All Things Rose Gold

currenty coveting rose gold jewelry clothes home decor

Hello, my name is Karen and I am currently obsessed with all things rose gold!  It all started in August when I purchased this necklace for my birthday. (Seen Here) I had one other rose gold piece and loved wearing it.  I wanted to add something else to expand my collection of this color.  The shimmer color of the pendant was beautiful, and I was surprised how much I wore it and how many things it went with.  I followed up my necklace with some matching earrings  (seen here), soon my computer case and phone case were also a pretty rose gold.  I even gravitated towards a few rose gold beauty products.

Rose gold is not a new shade, but I’ve noticed it gaining momentum in the jewelry department over the past few years.  After that, it started sneaking into clothing, shoes, and home decor.  A few of my new beauty products even feature rose gold packaging.  It’s a color that I predict will be joining the ranks as a staple color.

For jewelry, I love that the shade is so similar to my skin tone.  I love that it really makes the shimmer and sparkle stand out, but also blend in to my outfit.  The right shade of rose gold can work with both cool tones and warm tones giving it tons of versatility.  I’m predicting a lot more rose gold taking over my closet and home soon.  How do you feel about rose gold?  Which item above would you love to have in this color?

Hello Hello! How was your weekend?  We had the prettiest weather here in Houston! Saturday felt like Spring, so I joined a couple friends for an afternoon outdoors at a local brewery.  It was packed, so it looked like everyone was taking advantage of the beautiful weather along with us.

This week we are back to our colder temps.  I find one of the hardest things to dress for in winter is date nights.  You want to look cute, but you also want to be warm.  I tend to lean towards fitted, long sleeve, and boots.   This winter date night outfit features one of my favorite fitted dresses.  I own this dress in sleeveless and wear it so much during the spring and summer.  The long sleeve version is perfect for dressing up or down, especially in the earth tone colors.

For a date night look, I added in my taupe suede boots for added warmth.  You could also do heels too.  I love the addition of rose gold jewelry with this burnt orange color.  I think the two colors compliment each other really well.

On a cooler night, I would also add some sort of coat or jacket.  A brown fitted leather jacket, ivory wool coat, or cute trench would work perfectly with this outfit.  In Texas, bars and restaurants tend to be a little warmer inside to compensate for the cold outdoors.  I take this into consideration when getting dressed, and usually don’t wear super thick sweaters.  Instead opting for a fitted leather jacket that I can keep on or take off depending on the temp.

I hope these tips help when planning your next date night or even a girls dinner out.  I wish you all a fabulous week ahead!

Happy Friday! I’m so excited to be ending my week with a catch up session with some of my girlfriends tonight! I am so ready for yummy food, wine, and all the girl talk.  My work week was definitely one of the busiest I’ve had in awhile, ironic considering I started my blog week off with discussing how I balance work and blog.

I’m closing out this week for you with one of my top outfit combos for winter workwear, an oversized sweater and cute skirt.  I love the fit and flare style with an oversized sweater for a fun, flirty, and feminine look.  If you want to create this look, opt for a shorter or cropped sweater so a good portion of the skirt will still show.  This is essential if you are a petite gal like me.  This oversized sweater is so warm and cozy ya’ll!!  It’s also super cute with jeans and tall boots.

Another option with this skirt is to go with a fitted black sweater and black boots, similar to the look I created in this post.  I think the change from fitted to oversized changes up the look of the skirt, so you can get more wears from it just a week or two apart.

Alright ya’ll, I hope you have a fabulous Friday and weekend.  Thanks for stopping by this week!
