A few weeks ago, my friends and I gathered to celebrate our good friend Meaghan and her future daughter.  I wanted what I wore to the shower to be a little bit dressy, but also a little casual.  I knew this skirt would be perfect for the little bit dressy part, and that it was also a skirt I could easily dress down a bit. Pretty much my entire outfit was planned around this skirt.  For the casual part of my outfit, I reached for one of my H&M tees.   I really like how the thin black and white stripes pair with the pinkish peach color of the skirt!   With my dressy casual ensemble ready, it was time to accessorize!  I have worn this skirt with only gold so far, so I wanted to change it up a bit and pair it with some silver jewelry.  I immediately grabbed my Kendra Scott Rayne necklace.  I love how the white pearl color looks against the color of the skirt!  I felt I needed one more delicate necklace, so I added in my infinity necklace from Wildbloom.  It was the perfect length to sit right above the crew neckline of the shirt.  Since my Rayne necklace and this skirt are both statement pieces, I kept my earrings and bracelets super simple.  I opted for only a couple thin bangles, and my basic Kendra Scott studs.  While digging through my purses for a clutch to carry, I found this old favorite from Sam Moon.  I love how the turquoise color pops against the pink of the skirt!!  It provided the perfect compliment to my outfit!

The shower was beautiful and fun! We made little headbands for the new baby to wear throughout her first year.  I, of course, made her a violet one!! Now we are just patiently awaiting this precious little girl’s arrival, so we can start showering her with lots and lots of love!!  And so Meaghan can drink champagne with me again. 🙂

So I  spent my entire weekend in the sunshine!  I love that spring weather is not only here, but seems to be finally sticking around.  I started ironing some of my skirts and spring work dresses Sunday night to prepare some spring work looks for the warm days this week.   A pencil skirt and sleeveless solid color blouse is a go-to for me in the office clothes category.  I love a great pencil skirt!  This one in particular is a dark gray which I like to wear as something a little lighter in color and different than the normal black.   I am also in love with this butterfly sleeve blouse from H&M.  I own it in pink and white, and keep them in a good rotation through Spring and Summer.  I love them not just because they are cute, but they do not need to be ironed!  That is a huge plus for me!

You may be wondering what that last photo is all about.  I have been nominated for a Liebster Award!  This actually is the second time I have been nominated, and I feel so honored and lucky to have been chosen by fellow bloggers to receive this award.  I have recently become more involved in my local blogger community and have met some amazing women who I love getting to know and share blogging ideas and knowledge with.  I had no idea how amazing the blogging community was when I started this blog.  So what is a Liebster Award?  It is recognition from another blogger on a job well done, a welcome to the blogging community,  and a chance to share a little about me with my readers and other bloggers.  I first want to thank the first person who nominated me Style Savvy Sara, I totally procrastinated on posting this a couple months ago, but better than late than never right.

My current nomination is from Tina of Go Big or Go Home.  She sent me 10 Questions to answer as part of my acceptance of the award.  So here we go:

1- What’s your blog about?  My blog is all about sharing my personal style and my fashion journey.
2- What did you want to be when you grew up?  I wanted to be a teacher just so I could write on the chalkboard and because I wanted to decorate a classroom.
3- What is your favorite beauty product?  I LOVE my Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner.  It is kind of a cross between liquid and pencil that you apply with a eyeliner brush.  It goes on smooth and easy and lasts all day long!  I never leave the house without it on!
4- What brand is your favorite pair of jeans?  I have recently started trying new brands out, but I will always go back to my first love of Lucky Brand.  I still have some of the pairs I wore 10 years ago, and they still are in great condition!
5- Tell me about your favorite day in your life!  This is hard I have a few, but I think the day I graduated college because I love that feeling I had of I can do absolutely anything I want in the whole wide world!
6- Why did you start blogging? I started because I wanted an outlet to talk fashion and share my personal style and outfit ideas.
7- Where is your favorite place in your house? I love my back patio, it’s really quiet and peaceful and a great place for morning coffee or evening wine.
8- Coffee or tea? COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE!  I jokingly say I have to have at least one cup of coffee before I am ready to speak to anyone, on some days that is completely true too!
9- Tell me about your favorite DIY project.  I am not very DIY at all, but I was super proud of myself for painting my bedroom a few years ago.  It was a huge all day project I did all by myself, and I felt pretty accomplished and incredibly sore afterwards!
10- Where do you get outfit inspiration?  I pull my inspiration from everywhere from pinterest to street style to friends.  I also love reading other fashion blogs for their style tips.

I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about me!  To wrap up my Liebster Award duties, I am going to nominate a few bloggers to answer the same questions I answered above!  I have hung out with some fabulous and amazing Houston bloggers this week, so I am going to nominate some of my new local blogging buddies.  I nominate Alice of Lone Star Looking Glass, Michelle of Becoming a Heath, and Elly of Uptown with Elly Brown.

Spring always seems like a jam-packed season for me and Texas in general.  By the first day of summer, we sometimes are already breaking the 100 degree mark, so we try to cram as much outdoor fun into the few months of Spring.  From festivals to wine on bar patios to cookouts and crawfish boils, the outdoor season is here.  I thought I would share a few of my spring essentials that are pretty constant in my weekend wardrobe.  I LOVE swing dresses and they are a weekend wardrobe staple for me year round!  I am loving this striped one I picked up from a local Houston boutique.  It is sleeveless and the material is super lightweight, so it is definitely a dress that will be perfect for spring and those hot summer days to come!  I am always toting around a light jacket in spring.  Most of my spring dresses or sleeveless or a a thin strap, so I like to have a jacket to toss on in the morning or late evening when the temperature dips.   I purposely purchased this H&M denim jacket just a bit big so that I could roll the sleeves up on cool Spring nights.   My Spring shoe essential is definitely a wedge sandal!  I do not wear flat shoes very often, in fact some people never realize just how short I am because I am always in some sort of heel.  Wedges are really comfortable for me!  Some people are stocking up on flip flops this time of year, but I am getting ready to start adding to my wedges collection!   My go-to purse for Spring is a cross-body bag.  They are super light weight and hands-free!  Plus, if you are not wearing your jacket, they provide a great little place to drape it over.  What are some of your Spring essentials?

Sometimes Mondays are the hardest for me to crawl out of bed and reach for the office side of my closet.  Especially in spring and summer, when I have probably spent most of the weekend in comfy maxi and sundresses.  Blending a little of my weekend wardrobe into my Monday office look helps me ease into a new work week. When I purchased this striped t-shirt, one of the ways I was most excited to style it was for work.  I mean who doesn’t want to find a way to wear a comfy t-shirt to work.  The best way for me to cross my weekend tee to office appropriate is with a colorful pencil skirt.  If you wanted to go a step further, you could also toss a black blazer over this look to go even more professional.   I also think the stripes on the top help take it up a notch to make it look a little more office ready.  Although, I think a v-neck tee in a solid color like black, white or even mustard yellow would look pretty fabulous with this skirt too.

Over the next few weeks, I am going to be doing a little trial run of listing a few past looks that also incorporated a few of the pieces from today’s outfit.  I love not only styling an outfit, but finding ways to restyle those pieces to maximize the number of looks out of everything I own.  I think the more outfits I create out of each piece the better value that piece is for me.  I hope you find some style inspiration seeing a few posts of an item that maybe you are thinking about adding to your wardrobe, or a piece you already own and are looking for a few new ways to style.  Thanks Ya’ll and Happy Monday!
