April in Houston is outdoor party season! It’s normally so hot and humid in Houston that most summer parties are either indoors or a pool party.  I love this little outdoor party outfit for a backyard barbecue or a little patio party.

I hate buying shorts and don’t wear them too often, so most of mine are a few years old.    I bought these from H&M a few years ago and linked a similar pair from them above.  My favorite thing is the length.  I’m not a super short shorts kinda gal, but I also don’t want them to look like my mom’s shorts. 🙂  This is a good in between length for me.  I like wearing black dress shorts to evening outdoor parties.  I think it gives it a dressier look than regular jeans shorts and is a great alternative to a spring dress.  I like playing with proportions, so I paired them with this boxy top.

Okay, so first things first if you are heading to an outdoor party that will be in grass, DO NOT wear heels!!  I would recommend opting for wedges or you will spend the whole party sinking into the ground.  However, if you are heading to a party that will be on a patio or deck, why not pull out a fun pair of heels!  If you aren’t sure, either bring both and go with the best option when you get there, or just go for wedges to be safe.  I loved how this outfit looked with the pop of yellow, so I went with heels.

I am officially leaving for Charleston tomorrow!!!  I’m so excited and cannot wait to be there!!  I have a fun post planned for Friday to give you a sneak peek at what I packed for the trip. Happy Monday Ya’ll!!  My vacation week is officially here.  I just have to make it through 3 days of work, and then I will be off to Charleston with my girlfriends! It’s going to be the longest 3 days!  Do you ever notice how those few work days before vacation seem to last forever?!?!

I am so in LOVE with this French Connection dress.  I wore this to my cousin’s wedding a couple weekends ago.  I had originally wanted a bright solid color dress, but I was striking out with all the dresses I tried on.  I had pretty much given up and decided to just wear something old when I stumbled upon this dress.  I was actually ordering a couple things for my trip when this dress popped up and was on sale!  As soon as I saw it, I knew 1) it would be perfect for the wedding and 2) it was the perfect LBD.  The lace panel is my favorite part of this dress.  It really takes this dress from just a normal fit and flare to something special. The dress is a super comfy stretch material, so it was easy to dance and move in it.  I added a short statement necklace to add a little detail to the neckline.

My biggest concern when I ordered the dress was the length.  I’m only 5’3, so I knew the midi length could potentially be the deal breaker on this dress.  The lace panel I loved so much, also means it would be hard/expensive to alter.  I decided to go ahead and purchase these nude sandals to pair with the dress.  A nude shoe is a great way to make your legs looks longer, and my little secret to wearing midi length skirts and dresses without looking super short and awkward.  I have been meaning to buy these shoes for awhile because they work with everything from dresses to jeans to shorts.  I used to think the thin straps would make these shoes uncomfortable, but honestly they do give your foot some good support.  I have only walked in them so far, so I’ll keep you updated on my experience with them.

My dress arrived the Thursday before the wedding and fit like a glove!  I was so happy with it.  Unfortunately my shoes hit a delay and didn’t arrive until the Monday after the wedding.  Luckily, I had an old pair of shoes from when I was a bridesmaid to wear with this dress.  I was a little disappointed to not have my shoes in time, but since I know I will being wearing these for years to come I wasn’t super sad.

Hope ya’ll have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

I have had the busiest few weeks, and there is no sign of slowing down for the rest of the month except for tonight.  I am so excited to get off work, put on my pjs, pour a glass of wine, and do absolutely nothing but catch up on my DVR.  I know I’m going to be busy all weekend getting me and Lady in Violet ready for my vacation next week, so I am going to seriously enjoy relaxing tonight!!

The Shopbop sale officially wrapped up last night, and I hope you all scored some amazing deals!  If you want a sneak peek of what I bought, check out the In My Closet section of my shop page.  One of my favorite items to splurge on is a neutral statement top.  I bought this one years ago from RueLaLa (which if you like designer deals you should check out!).   The gorgeous applique details make this top a standout, but I think the neutral white color keeps it from being too statement memorable.  It makes it easy to wear this top every couple months.  A white blouse is also great for building an outfit around.  I love adding fun colorful jewelry, shoes, and purses to the look.  I rounded up a bunch of gorgeous white tops below in all different price ranges.

Thank ya’ll so much for taking some time out of your week to visit Lady in Violet!!  Happy Friday and have a fabulous weekend!

Last night, I met up with the girlfriends’ that I am heading to Charleston with in 8 days!! We had fun talking about our trip and making last minute plans.  Of course, we talked about what we were all packing.  Shoes quickly came up because the streets of Charleston are not made for heels.  I personally plan on bringing all flats and my trusty wedges.

This is probably my favorite shoe post every year, because I LOVE wedges!! This year I decided to stick to neutral wedges because I am totally on a nude shoe kick right now.  I also broke them down into price range for you.  If I could afford it, I would own all the splurge options!! I can’t even pick a favorite, because they are all super cute.  For now, I will just wait for them to go on sale.  You can find some really great options for under $100 too.  I own pair two and wear them all the time! I was really happy when I saw they were brought back this season, because they really are a great wedge sandal that works with everything.  Fun fact about the under $150 section, one of them is made by Ugg! I had no idea they even made wedges let alone amazingly cute ones!!

A few of these are included in the Shopbop Sale happening right now.  Head to yesterday’s post for my full sale roundup.  Now I am off to attempt putting the finishing touches on my Shopbop order, because I am having the hardest time narrowing my wish list down!  Although the fact that a few items are already sold out in my size helps. Hope you all have a great day and thanks for stopping by!!
