Current Cravings: Pretty in Pink

Lady in Violet, a Houston Fashion Blogger shares her latest current craving and the hot fashion trend of being pretty in pink.

Happy Monday friends!  First off, I have to start by saying I wrote this post before the Super Bowl started, so I can’t give much feedback on my thoughts on who won, the commercials, or Lady Gaga, yet.  I can say I ate some yummy food though. 🙂

Lately, I have had the biggest itch to buy everything spring related.  It probably has a lot to do with our lackluster winter, and the fact that most days are already beautiful spring days.  One thing I keep wish listing is everything pink!  The pink fashion trend really kicked into high gear last year when it was 1 of 2 Pantone colors of the year.   I feel like this year pink is kicking it’s light blue sidekick to the curb and shining even brighter.

The pastel baby pink is really getting all the heart eyes from me, but I am not  forgetting about the darker pink shades.  I tried these heels on in store, and I’m highly considering purchasing them.  My holdout is the material.  I want something leather instead of the suede look.  Honestly, I really want these beauties, but 1) they’re expensive and 2) they only have one size left and it’s not mine.

A few ways to style pink –
1) Mix the pastel pink with gray.  Layer a gray jacket or pair with gray jeans.  Pair a pink dress with gray accessories and heels.
2)  Dust off your white jeans, because this color pops against white.
3)  Combine different shades of pink for a colorblocked look.  Pair a light pink blouse with a dark pink pencil skirt, or a light pink dress or top with dark pink jewelry.
4)  Mix pastel pink with a few deeper colors like burgundy, navy, and green for a winter to spring transition.
5)  Mix the darker pink with teal, yellow, or red for a few fun spring and summer color combos.

Did I make you want all the pink things too? 🙂  This color can be really versatile and has become a color you can wear year round.  Right now with so many different shades of pink available,  it’s a great time to add a little bit to your wardrobe.  Ya’ll have a great week, and thanks for stopping by!

What to Wear to a Super Bowl Party

Lady in Violet, a Houston Fashion Blogger shares 16 Super Bowl Party Outfit Idea to wear on Sunday.

As many of you know, I live in Houston and the big Super Bowl game this year is in Houston.  It’s been fun watching the city prepare for the big game.  The teams have been here all week, athletes and celebrities are starting to trickle in, and the parties are in full force.  This gal here plans to spend the weekend at home in a t-shirt and jeans (probably leggings). Ha!  Well I do plan to go to a few workout classes and the grocery store, but like that’s it.

I am not a fan of crowds, traffic, or not being able to find parking, so I decided long ago that I would be sitting this one out.  I do wish I would have gone downtown last weekend for the NFL Experience event before the crowds came in.  I’ve heard it was really cool and fun.  Despite my desire to stay home, I am a big football fan and LOVE that this big game is in my hometown.  Houston is an amazing city, and it’s great to see that showcased to the whole world!!  Who knows maybe some big celeb will be on the bike next to me at spin class. 😉

Normally we either attend or host a big Super Bowl Party, so in case you are heading to one scroll down for a few outfit ideas.  I divided them up by team.  My Atlanta Falcons fans pull out the bright red, and my New England Patriots fans look for dark blue and navy.  For those of you heading to a party because there is queso and Lady Gaga at halftime, I put together a few neutral outfits for you too.

A few tips for putting your Super Bowl Party Outfit together –
1) Pick something you can stand and sit in for long hours, you may even end up sitting on the floor.  Keep that in mind.
2)  Some of the outfits below have heels, but I would opt for flats, boots, or booties for the same reason listed above.
3)  You can still wear your hometown team’s jersey!  It’s the last NFL game until August, pull out that jersey and wear it!!
4) If you don’t care which team wins, stay away from the team colors.  You will be deemed a fan of that time by color association.
5)  Prepare to eat!  Half the fun of the party is all the food, so make sure your outfit can accommodate a little over indulgence!

Now enjoy the outfit inspiration below, and ya’ll have a fun and safe Super Bowl Weekend!!

Hello February!  How about we kick off this month with this gorgeous Valentine’s Day outfit for work and date night.  Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, pretty much right smack in the middle of the work week.  For us office-goers, the easiest date night solution is to plan an outfit that works for both day and night.

I purchased this skirt over a year ago, and it’s still available.  It’s a classic silhouette, and the thick material means lots of winter rotation!  I love the full shape and midi length, perfect length for the office.  The color though that is what makes me feel all the Valentine’s day vibes.  It’s just the most gorgeous shade of dark pink.  I paired this skirt with my classic black crewneck sweater to keep this look office friendly, but I added a glam statement necklace to make this look work for date night too.

I also added a great pair of nude heels that are both office and date friendly.  For all my short girls, nude heels are the perfect pairing for midi skirts because they give an optical illusion of long legs!  Trade out your office tote for this classic black clutch, and you will be on your way to that romantic date night.

Now just don’t forget to make those dinner reservations!  If you are looking for a few gift ideas, check my last post for idea for her and him.  Ya’ll have a great rest of the week, and thanks for swinging by today!

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Her & Him

Houston Blogger Lady in Violet shares Valentine's Day gift ideas for her and him.

Happy Monday!! Can you believe Valentine’s Day is only two weeks away?!?  Time to make those dinner reservations and start shopping for the perfect gift.  I filled this guide with Valentine’s Day gift ideas for her and him in a variety of price ranges.

This eye mask is the cutest thing ever! I am a huge fan of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, so this mask is everything.  I own a different mask from this same company, and they are good quality and well made.  You can never go wrong giving a girl a bottle of sparkling wine, especially when it’s a bottle of Veuve!  I don’t usually include perfume in gift guides, but this scent smells amazing.  I have been shopping for a new perfume, and after a few months of sniffing tons of bottles, this one is my front-runner.  It is a light sweet scent.

I have heard so many rave reviews of this tote bag.  It comes in a variety of colors, so you are sure to find her favorite one.  I decided to include one splurge item for both lists, and this classic David Yurman bracelet is perfect for the gal on your list.  It’s a timeless look that you can wear everyday and easily mixes with your bracelet stack.

For him, I composed a list of things my hubs would love or that I think he needs. 😉  I have purchased the small travel kit version of this duffel bag, and love the quality.  This would make the perfect weekend or carry-on bag.  The wood details on this iphone case are beautiful, unique, and still manly.  If I am including wine for her, I have to include a decanter for him.  Pair it with his favorite scotch or bourbon for a cute two-part gift idea.  While women collect all the jewelry pieces, I find men tend to collect watches.   This one is my splurge for him, and I love the sleek, modern look of it.

If you plan on ordering a gift online, don’t wait too long.  Most places take about 7-10 days for shipping, and I know many will celebrate the weekend before since Valentine’s Day falls during the week.  If you are planning to celebrate that Tuesday, check back here on Wednesday for the perfect outfit to go from work to date night.  See ya’ll then!
