How to Build the Perfect Rodeo Outfit

I’m doing something a little different for today’s post and sharing a little insight into how I put an outfit together. One thing I hear so much from people is wanting help with how to put cute outfits together. You have the clothes, but don’t know what to do with them. The process of styling and putting together an outfit is so much fun to me, and I figured it might be helpful to share a little of my thought process when I build an outfit.
Since it’s rodeo season here in Houston, I figured I would start with how to build the perfect rodeo outfit. Keep scrolling to see my getting ready process, and let me know what you think of this style of post in the comments!

All outfits start with a base. My look today is a simple top and jeans look. For rodeo season, many of my outfits start with a cute floral print top and dark wash skinny jeans. The red floral print gave me lots of western wear vibes! I also love the banded sleeve, so I can easily push them if I get warm.

This top has a flowy feel to it and hides my shape, so I added in my brown belt to give more definition to my waist line. I chose my brown belt because it matches my only pair of cowboy boots.

Next up, SHOES! It is the rodeo, so this was an easy shoe decision. I grabbed my good old cowboy boots. If you don’t have cowboy boots, a cute pair of brown booties or tall brown leather boots will work too. My boots are older, and I’m considering upgrading to this pair.

Clothes and shoes are done, now it’s time to accessorize! Since the print on this top and the multiple style details are kind of busy, I opted for more simple jewelry. I added my gold necklace that was the perfect length for the v-neck design of the top. For earrings, I went with a gold and white pair. I like that the white helps bring out the white of the print in the top.

Last up for this outfit, pick a purse! My tan leather crossbody purse works perfectly for this outfit. The brown compliments the red top and works with the other brown shades in my outfit. The small size is also perfect for a crowded rodeo and the crossbody strap keeps my hands free to enjoy all the yummy food and shopping!
And there you go! All the steps on how I built my rodeo outfit. If you would like to see more posts like this let me know in the comments or in my Spring Survey. If you have an outfit or item you would like me to work into a similar post, you can leave that on the survey too!
Thanks for stopping by this week ya’ll and have a great weekend!

What I Wore This Month

Anyone else feel like January lasted forever and February flew by?? I can’t believe that we are already at the end of the month! Our weather fluctuated between spring and winter which is kind of normal February weather for us. My outfits included layers and lots of lightweight sweaters this month.
I’m currently doing a closet clean out which always means I wear more older items from my closet. You will see a few old or similar item links this month and probably next too. My closet is currently overflowing, so it is a much needed clean out! If you want to see what I’m purging from my closet, I’m posting some items in my poshmark closet. I usually get rid of items that I haven’t worn in a year or so, items that no longer fit my style, and items that no longer fit.
Hope you enjoy this month’s winter outfits and don’t forget to take my spring reader survey HERE to help me create better outfit ideas for you!

Zebra Print Top

I’ve already added a few new items to my closet for Spring, and almost all of them are prints. In the past, I have gravitated to more solids with a few prints sprinkled in. I can already tell this year is going to be different as I add animal and floral prints more into the mix. I’ve always been a fan of beautiful spring floral prints. Animal prints has been a slow add to my closet with a pair of shoes and like one top in probably the past year.
So far for spring though, I have already added 3 pieces! While leopard print may be the most popular animal print, I’ve leaned a little more to the zebra print. I love stripes, and I’m sure that is a big part of why I am so drawn to this print. It’s like an abstract striped top. This top is the classic black and white look of this print. I do love the color varieties like pink and gray that I’ve seen in other pieces.
For the spring season, I wanted to add a few nice casual tops to my wardrobe that had lots of versatility. I had a few life changes from last spring with a new job that has a more casual style to a new relationship that means less first date dresses and outfits and more casual hanging out clothes. I still want pieces for grabbing brunch or happy hour with my girlfriends. So basically work to happy hour/brunch to casual date night.
Animal prints are really great to hit all of these marks. This zebra print top is a nicer material for work, and the puff sleeve detail makes it fun for a night with friends. It’s also casual enough for grabbing a quick bite to eat before settling in for movie night. You can easily dress up this top with a pencil skirt, black jeans and heels, or pair it with a colorful straight leg slack. I think blue and green would be really pretty with this print.
Stay tuned this spring for more animal print, some really pretty florals, and of course I still will be styling some great solid basics perfect for every closet.

What I Wore in January + Reader Favorites

Did anyone else feel like January was extra long this year? I feel like we should be halfway through February already. Of course, I also know in a few months that I will be shocked how quickly time has flown by. Maybe it has to do with it being such a slow month compared to the busy holiday months it follows. Either way, I’m ready to be inching closer to warm Spring weather and outfits!
I’m doing a two for one with today’s post and sharing a look back at what I wore in January plus your favorite items and blog posts. My month was filled with sweaters, jackets, and cardigans. When I was putting this post together, I realized I definitely had a favorite shoe this month. I included a few workout looks too. I’ve really been enjoying doing class pass this month. I found two new favorites – barre and megaformer pilates – that I’m planning to keep in my workout rotation along with gym time and spin.
My boyfriend and I have a busy weekend planned out. We are doing a little outlet shopping on Saturday, and then watching the Big Game together on Sunday! If you missed it, I shared a few Super Bowl party outfit ideas and tips on making a yummy game day snack board earlier this week. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Next week is going to be all about Valentine’s Day here on the blog, I can’t wait to share the outfits with ya’ll! See you soon.
