Every Closet Needs a Denim Jacket

For years, I resisted buying a denim jacket. I thought it was a just a trend that would soon go away. It also kind of reminded me of junior high. 🙂 One of my good girlfriends/trendsetters had one for a few years. Even though I was resisting the trend, I was always a little jealous of the outfits she put together with her denim jacket. Last year, I decided to give in and purchase one. I mean I live in Texas, denim is our thing right?!? I still felt it was just a trend, so I hit up my local H&M to find one on the cheap. I ended up liking this jacket way more than I realized. It really has lots of versatility. It can both dress up and down an outfit. In spring, I love pairing mine with sundresses. I think it would look cute over a little lace dress or pleated skirt for a fun date night. During fall and winter, I love pairing it with a simple outfit like jeans and a tee to dress it up a little. This casual long sleeve tee doubles as around the house lounge wear for me. Adding a denim jacket really help completes the look and take it outside the house. I added my cute little booties because they make me feel western with my denim jacket. haha.
I hope y’all have a fabulous Friday and an amazing weekend! I am taking my first SoulCycle class tomorrow morning, and I am soooo excited!! I have heard such great things about these classes and love the little mini tour they are doing with Target. Bonus, the class is free! I have been saving the purple tank from Wednesday’s post to wear to the class because cycling classes are like sweat city!! I will definitely be earning my wine!

OMG, are ya’ll sick of my styling these white jeans yet?? Well, too bad because I really like them and I’m not done yet! 🙂 I mentioned last week that I finally ventured out of my house in my white denim. Well this is the outfit I wore to my dad’s birthday party. I liked that the vest was long to cover the denim when I would sit down. I live in this sleeveless cardigan in the spring and summer! It always comes with me to the beach or on trips. It is perfect to lounge in during the mornings or evenings when there is a light breeze. It is a few years old, but I found it available at a consignment website (aka resale store). I definitely think I need another long sleeveless cardigan like this one! Probably something similar to the other option I linked. I think a solid gray would be perfect to mix in with so many outfits. In addition to wearing with jeans and a tee, I will toss it on over dresses and shorts. I love how it adds a little something extra to an outfit.
I’m so excited for this weekend! I have a little meetup planned with other Houston members of the Southwest Blog Society. This outfit may look a little familiar. A few weeks ago, I featured this gorgeous vintage dress I picked up from a Houston vintage shop. I also mentioned in the post that I had another fun way to wear the sheer portion of the dress. I couldn’t keep you waiting any longer for that second outfit. I loved this dress as it was, but I really love it over my white denim. I like how you can really see the silhouette of the body underneath the sheer blue overlay. The white underneath really brightens up the blue of the dress! After seeing this over the white, I am considering buying a white maxi to also wear with this overlay. I also wanted to change up my accessories and keep with cool tones, so I added in some silver jewelry this time around. I’m still rocking the same shoes because I LOVE this pair! I tried on some with thinner straps, but just didn’t like how loose my foot felt in them. I love the thicker straps on these. I think it is more visually appealing (at least for me) than the thinner strap, and my foot doesn’t feel like it is going to pop out. 🙂 The top strap is Velcro which makes it super easy to get them on and off! OH Hello Color! When I first saw this skirt, I could not get over how beautiful the color and cut of this blue maxi skirt was. I picked it up, admired it, and then put it back on the rack. As beautiful as it was, the bright and bold color was a little scary for me. As I continued my tour of the new Topshop, I kept coming back to this skirt. I had to try it on, I mean I am trying to add more color to my closet and this is colorful! I seriously did not want to take this skirt off! I have been wanting to add more maxi skirts to my wardrobe, because I think they are perfect to wear in spring! I love that this one has two slits on either side, because it makes walking so much easier. Plus, it creates gorgeous movement when you walk. The bright color scared me at first, but as I stood in the dressing room I imagined all the things I could wear with it. I thought about yellow tube tops for summer or black fitted sweaters for fall and winter. I could style this skirt year round, I was sold! I was also sold on this fun white top, also from Topshop. I love that you can put any color tank top underneath it, and you have a new top. I partnered it with a light blue to balance the bright blue of the skirt in today’s look. I think this top would look pretty awesome with a neon color tank underneath to help subdue the color a bit. This top has so many possibilities! I cannot wait to share them in some upcoming posts!
