I can’t believe it is almost July!! Today, I am heading to Charleston, SC for the Southern Blog Society Conference. I am so excited to meet bloggers who I have only known through Instagram or by reading their blog. I am also really excited to learn more about this fun and crazy world of blogging. The blogging community is so amazing with everyone willing to share their stories and knowledge! I am also hoping to get out and a explore the historical parts of Charleston. If you have any recommendations from eating to shopping to must see tourist stops, please leave them in the comments or email me!
With great American history on my mind and the 4th of July just around the corner, I thought I would share a little patriotic holiday look with you today. Navy and white is one of my favorite color combos to wear for the 4th! I like that it is subtle nod to the patriotic colors, but not too over the top. I have always been a fan of embroidered tops, and love the details on this one! I especially like that the embroidery goes all the way to the bottom of the top. The outline helps create a bit of a slimming effect. If you want to add a subtle hint of red you can always add some red sandals or fun red jewelry like earrings or bracelets.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! I am off to catch my flight!! I’ll be sharing photos of my conference adventures on Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat (ladyinviolet). You can also search for #SBScon to see what everyone is sharing! I will also be putting together a fun post-conference post to share about my SBScon experience. Ok, I think it is beyond obvious how excited I am for this trip! See you soon Charleston!

I haven’t decided what my favorite color to wear with this teal bag is yet, but it is definitely between blue and dark pink. A few weeks ago, I shared a few tips on purchasing a colored purse, so I figured I would share a tip on how to style a colored satchel. The shocking truth though ya’ll is this tip is super similar to one of the purchasing tips. When you carry a colored satchel on a daily basis, you quickly have to love color mixing. It is a huge part of styling this purse. I am not going to wear this with a teal or green dress. I am going to style with either other cool colors like blue to slightly blend in, or with fun shades of pink or purple to allow it to pop. If you aren’t quite ready for a full on two-tone look, you can start small like in today’s outfit. Overall my look is mainly white with the jeans and the background of the top which really allows the green of the purse to pop and take the spotlight. I also love how the green color pops against a dark pink. The print covers about half the shirt which can ease you into color mixing.
If you have found a colored satchel you love and need help with what colors to wear it with, please feel free to email me (karen@ladyinviolet.com) and I would be happy to give you some style advice! I also listed some of the summer purse colors I have seen in stores below along with a few colors I would wear them with. Although, I would advise to just use as a guide because sometimes the funnest part of color mixing is putting the unexpected colors together! If you want to see more ways I have styled this bag, head to my Instagram where this bag is popping up on a weekly basis in my #ootd posts. Last, I know some of you loved this color, so I linked a few additional Henri Bendel bags that are still available in it.

AHHH!!! It has been a crazy few days here in Houston! Monday night started a huge storm, and Tuesday we woke up to a city full of water! We were super lucky and only had some water in the bottom of one of our cars, so no major damage. I ventured out a bit yesterday, and it was crazy to see cars just abandoned in the middle of streets as people fled to higher ground Monday night when the storm rolled in. By the end of Tuesday, a majority of the water on the roadways had receded thank goodness! Now just hoping for a small break in the rain so our bayous and majorly flooded areas can go down too! For all my Houston area readers, please stay safe and thanks to all those first responders and good Samaritans who helped people find safety yesterday!
Now let’s talk some fashion, because this girl is ready to talk about something other than the weather for a bit! My two favorite things to wear right now are my white denim and a chambray shirt. I actually wore this outfit to work last Friday. I was so proud of myself because I had a chili dog for lunch, and it did not end up on my white pants. I have come along way from my initial ginormous fear of just walking out the door in these pants! I decided it was time for a new lighter chambray shirt to wear in the summer months. I found this one at local Houston boutique, Wildbloom in Rice Village. I thought the color was spot on for the shade I was looking for. I also like that the back fully covers my backside. I still worry about sitting in something in my white jeans, baby steps. If you are in Rice Village in Houston, you should check out this shop. They have lots of fun clothes and jewelry at an array of prices. This shirt was only like $39. I shopped on a store-wide sale day, so I don’t remember the exact original price.
When I was originally invited to the Burdlife Trunk show, I checked out their website and fell in love with this necklace. As soon as I saw it in person at the show, I had to have it! While this pendant necklace is a statement piece, the colors in the necklace also have a bit of neutrality to them. This necklace looks great and stands out perfectly against neutral colors like black, white, or this lighter chambray, but it also works with brighter colors like green, magenta and yellow. The colors of this necklace make it perfect to wear all seasons! Bonus in my book! Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to enter the Canon Rebel and Kate Spade giveaway! Head to the bottom of last Tuesday’s post to enter the rafflecopter!

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet the amazing designer Chan Luu at an event benefiting Dress for Success. First off, she was so amazing and down to earth. She was super approachable to talk to or snap a photo with. I also thought it was really cool that she was at the bracelet display helping people try on her gorgeous wrap bracelets! I fell in love with this white crystal pull tie bracelet immediately. Once I put it on, I knew I was buying it. I think I have tried to work it into my outfit everyday since I purchased it. I love how it pairs perfectly with my casual tunics and gold bracelets. As an added bonus, a portion of my purchase went back to Dress for Success so I had to buy it, right?!? If you have never heard of Dress for Success, it is an organization that supports disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help women thrive in work and life. Since 1998, Dress for Success Houston has provided business attire, a much-needed boost of confidence, and career advancement services to more than 30,000 women in the Houston community. I have been volunteering at Dress for Success for a few years now, and I absolutely love watching the women grow both personally and professionally! If you have any business attire you are not wearing, the Dress for Success office accepts clothing donations like suits, closed-toe shoes, professional handbags preferably black, hosiery, and more. Visit the Dress for Success Houston website to learn more about the organization, donations or volunteering!
