Happy Friday y’all! It was rainy and gloomy most of the week which left me feeling so sleepy. Not good following a 3 day weekend.  It did give me an excuse to stay in my loungewear all week though.  I’ve found getting dressed everyday really helps my productivity, but some days you just have to enjoy the lounging lifestyle look.

If you missed it, earlier this week I shared a little change that you will start seeing in some of my fashion posts.  I’m planning to start showing you more ways to wear pieces and across different seasons.  In this time of less events, I think it’s important to know you can wear what you are buying multiple ways and for multiple seasons.  I’m also taking suggestions for items you would like me to style multiple ways, just head here to fill out the questions box.

I already have mutli-outfit posts for the rest of the month, but I wanted to share one last solo outfit.  Living in Texas, you can always use another western outfit for the rodeo, the state or county fair, or just a fun night out at an outdoor spot with friends. I’m quite obsessed with this mini dress! It was made to wear with cowboy boots!  I know the rodeo and fairs are probably not going to happen, so I will have to save this one for a future one.

In the meantime, a country western concert or just a casual evening out with friends at an outdoor spot would be perfect for this outfit.  You could add on a denim jacket for a bit cooler evening weather.  If you don’t have cowboy boots, a pair of booties would work just as well.  For a cooler fall day or evening, toss on a tan or beige cardigan with a pair of flat over the knee boots.

I hope y’all have  a fabulous weekend!  I have plans to see a few friends, and I cannot wait to catch up with them.  It’s also opening weekend of the NFL.  Steve and I have plans to make a pot of chili and spend the day watching the games.  It should be a good mix of fun and relaxing.

How to Build the Perfect Rodeo Outfit

how to build the perfect rodeo outfit | putting together an outfit from scratch | Houston Fashion Blog Lady in Violet

I’m doing something a little different for today’s post and sharing a little insight into how I put an outfit together.  One thing I hear so much from people is wanting help with how to put cute outfits together.  You have the clothes, but don’t know what to do with them.  The process of styling and putting together an outfit is so much fun to me, and I figured it might be helpful to share a little of my thought process when I build an outfit.

Since it’s rodeo season here in Houston, I figured I would start with how to build the perfect rodeo outfit.  Keep scrolling to see my getting ready process, and let me know what you think of this style of post in the comments!

All outfits start with a base.  My look today is a simple top and jeans look.  For rodeo season, many of my outfits start with a cute floral print top and dark wash skinny jeans. The red floral print gave me lots of western wear vibes! I also love the banded sleeve, so I can easily push them if I get warm.

This top has a flowy feel to it and hides my shape, so I added in my brown belt to give more definition to my waist line.   I chose my brown belt because it matches my only pair of cowboy boots.

Next up, SHOES! It is the rodeo, so this was an easy shoe decision.  I grabbed my good old cowboy boots.  If you don’t have cowboy boots, a cute pair of brown booties or tall brown leather boots will work too.  My boots are older, and I’m considering upgrading to this pair.

Clothes and shoes are done, now it’s time to accessorize!  Since the print on this top and the multiple style details are kind of busy, I opted for more simple jewelry.  I added my gold necklace that was the perfect length for the v-neck design of the top.  For earrings, I went with a gold and white pair. I like that the white helps bring out the white of the print in the top.

Last up for this outfit, pick a purse!  My tan leather crossbody purse works perfectly for this outfit.  The brown compliments the red top and works with the other brown shades in my outfit.  The small size is also perfect for a crowded rodeo and the crossbody strap keeps my hands free to enjoy all the yummy food and shopping!

And there you go! All the steps on how I built my rodeo outfit.  If you would like to see more posts like this let me know in the comments or in my Spring Survey.  If you have an outfit or item you would like me to work into a similar post, you can leave that on the survey too!

Thanks for stopping by this week ya’ll and have a great weekend!

Hello Loves! For all my Houston readers, we are officially one week away from the rodeo cookoff which means oh so close to Rodeo Season ya’ll!  A couple weeks ago, I shared a rodeo outfit idea without cowboy boots, and this week I’m going full cowgirl with a rodeo outfit with cowboy boots.

This western wear inspired outfit would work better for the last half of the rodeo when the weather warms up a bit.  I finally added a denim skirt to my closet this year!  I think the last one I owned was in college.  I have become such a skirt person, so a frayed hem denim skirt was something I wanted to add for the spring and summer.  I love the natural faded look of this one and the length.  It’s the perfect start to building the perfect rodeo outfit.

I added on this western romance crop top to add a little boho and western flair to the look.  My hair is covering the beautiful details on the shoulders of this top, oops!  The sheer top portion also features a pretty floral design.  I have another flowy crop top from this brand and wore it so much last summer.  Even though, it’s not quite the weather yet, I knew I wanted to add this to my wardrobe stat!  It will also be cute with skinny jeans and shorts.

I pretty much only wear cowboy boots to the rodeo, so I only own this one pair which are a few years old.  I found a few similar pairs to mine though in the links section.  Mine are the Bed Stu brand, and I couldn’t really find any western boots by them right now.  When I’m wanting to wear jeans, I always tuck my skinny jeans into them. A flowy top like this one would be perfect for this combo, or you can add a long sleeve plaid if the weather is still cool.

If you aren’t heading to a rodeo soon, this outfit with sandals will be perfect for you during the end of spring or summer months!  I hope you guys have a fabulous weekend!  I have a nice 3 day weekend headed my way, and I cannot wait!  Check back Monday because I’m going to put together a list of Presidents’ Day Sales for you.  It’s a good time to buy both end of winter clearance and stock up on spring basics.  Be sure to come by and check it out!

Where are all my Texas readers at?  This one’s for you!  Well really this outfit would be cute for everyone, but it would also be perfect for Texas rodeo season!  BBQ cookoffs, carnivals, fried food, bull riding, horses, concerts, and my fave, a wine garden all come together to create our Houston Rodeo.  The event also helps students earn scholarships through animal and art auctions, so fun for a cause.

While I’m pretty sure it is a requirement to own a pair of cowboy boots if you live in the great state of Texas, I wanted to share a rodeo outfit without cowboy boots for those of you who haven’t found the perfect pair quite yet. FYI – Many online western sites have sales on boots for Texas residents during the month of February!  An easy fix to those missing cowboy boots is to grab a cute pair of brown booties. Bonus points if they have a little western flair to them.  Make sure they are comfy to walk in, as you will easily hit your 10K steps at the rodeo!

I love this red plaid dress for a full day of all the rodeo activities.  It’s lightweight, and I think the red plaid is perfect for the rodeo.  Since rodeo season takes place February through March, I usually tie a denim jacket around my waist to wear in the evening when the temps cool off.  I also always opt for a crossbody or backpack style bag.  I need my hands free for some wine and sausage on a stick.

If you have plans to be in Houston Feb 25-Mar 17, you should look into spending a little time at our rodeo.  It’s really is a fun experience and always a good time!
